Park Assist is a huge necessity to a crappy parallel parker like myself, I was so stoked when I realized my car had it, I also like how M-B's only activate the feature if you want it (i.e selecting the passenger side on the button).
Someone in another Thread said he just has the mirror set to tilt down when he selects one of the preset numbers on the door, I'd say if you can't get it activated from the Dealers, to just do it that way, it works essentially the same as actually having the Park Assist.

When I had my 2009 in for service I asked them to modify the software. The service manager showed me written minutes from a MBUSA service meeting where they were all told that this was decontented for 2007 and up. of course he knew nothing about being able to code it himself.

220S: Should I expect to pay for Penske to do this modification, considering that I bought my car from Palm Springs?
Isbrodsky: So, were you able to get yours recoded?
All: After thinking on this a bit more, my conclusion is that the lady I spoke to at Tele-Aid was confusing the mirror tilt feature with Parktronic.

Have them do this
It's under Control Units -> Information and Communication -> IC Instrument Cluster -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Current Menu Settings.

What I find interesting is that EPC shows all modules with SA code 500 “Outside rear view LH and RH folding.” This leads me to believe that all MBUSA vehicles are capable of having this feature if one were to purchase the associated hardware (outside mirrors, interior switch, etc.) and perform version coding.

Have you found anything about modifying the door control module I mentioned?

It looks like false advertisement. The owner manual clearly describes a procedure for activating the feature and all steps works besides of final functionality. Let’s write a letter to MBUSA demanding explanations.

Here is the text of my email to Mercedes:
My 2009 E350 is my third E-Class, having owned a 2003 and a 2006. One of the features I found very useful on the previous cars was the ability to store a memory position for the right side mirror so it tilts down automatically when reversing, which is a great help in parking the car, and preventing wheel damage from bumping curbs. I tried to set this feature as described on pages 109-110 of the Operator's Manual without success. I contacted my dealer, M-B of Palm Springs, and was told that this feature has been "decontented".
In researching this further, I found information on an M-B owner's forum stating that the control module could be recoded to allow functionality of this feature.
As I have a disability which prevents me from turning my head easily, this feature is important to me, and is one of the reasons I chose another Mercedes. Please advise me how to have it made functional.

Good luck with that. I have called MBUSA on occasion and received inaccurate/conflicting information. I wish you the best of luck getting it resolved. Just be persistent. Print the screenshot of what I posted above and take it with you to the dealer.

I called Penske today, spoke to Robert, one of the Service Advisors, and explained my problem. He seemed quite willing to help (I had bought an E320 from them in 2003), and although he didn't know anything about this issue, said he would talk to the service personnel and see what he could find out. He called back in about three hours, saying he had talked to the service technicians and his team leader, and found out that "it couldn't be done". I'm beginning to think this is more of a matter of policy than possibility.
I'm still waiting for a reply from my email to mbusa.

220S,
Thanks for the update, and I look forward to hearing the outcome with any other dealers you may contact. It's looking like MB may have told the dealers not to reactivate this feature--from konigstiger's post above, the control module part number is unchanged, so it appears it just requires a few minutes work with the dealer's service computer.
I'll post here as soon as I get a reply from mbusa. I'm not going to give up on this.
I had my 993 out this morning for a PCA breakfast, nice day for a run through the canyons behind my house.

I just dropped off my car (2008 E350 4Matic, Sport) at the MB of Manhattan for Service A and also asked them to enable auto tilting. They informed me that only the passenger mirror will tilt and that they will do it without any problem. Just FYI.
UPDATE: So the dealership just called and said that my car does not have tilting feature. Oh well....

Here is the response from mbusa to my email:
Thank you for contacting Mercedes-Benz USA.
We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us. We regret the
inconvenience but it isn't possible to "recode" the exterior side view
mirrors for the parking position, this feature is currently not available.
As a valued Mercedes-Benz owner, we welcome your feedback, as it helps to
keep us current in understanding the needs and preferences of our
customers.
Mr. Tindel, we cannot overstate your importance to us as a customer, or our
regret for your disappointment, but do hope this will not detract from the
exceptional quality and performance your 2009 E350 has to offer.
The opportunity to respond is appreciated.

Just got the car back from M-B of Palm Springs. It went in for correction of fuel gauge problem, and I asked to have the mirror tilt enabled. I think they did give it a good try, but found that the door control module would not accept the version coding change to allow "park assist" to be enabled. They think that even though the part number is the same for the DCM from 06 to present, DMCs manufactured after a certain date won't accept the change.

I always just used the passenger mirror as it is. I simply raise my body a little bit and I can see the curb perfectly well. I had trouble using the feature on my Bimmer as it threw off my perspective. I guess if you come to rely on it, then it's important.
Remember all the cars we drove that were "state of the art" back in the 70s-80s? We thought they were the cat's meow. How about some curb feelers from JC Whitney
