Navigation Device Unavailable
Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I'm just learning how to get around this site. Here's my situation: I've got an e320 that, whenever I click on the Nav button, it says "Device Unavailable" Anyone know how much it would cost to acquire and have this device installed by the dealership vs. an authorized MB shop? I'd like to get an idea of how much to budget for this imperative device.
Thanks!

Hi rmathai, I have an E500 and I went to dealer to find out how much it would cost they quoted me ( and you're gonna want to sit down for this) $2400.00 installed. That was was enough to go and buy a TOM TOM gps.

Note to self: Sit on a chair before reading replies to my posts.
Anyone know any experienced companies that will do it aside from going to the dealer? I'd really like to have the OEM navi installed but that's ridiculous expensive for me

rmathai,
Welcome on board..
Before you invest in the OEM nav, you may want to give it further and more careful consideration. Search the forum and read through the various threads on MB NAV and the comparisons to other NAV options (like your cell phone's nav options) and make a judgment for yourself before dishing out the cold cash.
MB NAV is not cheap, and you might be disappointed on your ROI (Return on Investment).

Welco e aboard.. It would be helpful to know the year of the car that you want to install the Nav system in.
I had a 2003 E320 and retrofitted the nav unit following instructions and pictures found in the audio Forum. Ebay is your friend!

For a 2007, all you need to do is to buy the multi-handset interface (a/k/a "MHI" or "Bluetooth puck"). MSRP is nearly $500, but you can get good deals on Ebay for half that. Just slide it into the slot inside the console -- no tools needed. There is an old version of the MHI and a new version. The p/n for the new version is B67875878.

Nav updates to 08 E-350
Hi All: I am new to this site. Have been reading the various Nav threads & that's exactly what I need. Sorry! Dont mean to hi-jack the original thread.
The Nav system in my '08 E350 is amazingly bad I cant get it to accept an exact street address. It will just take me to the start of a street. So it wont direct me to 3545 Main street, but just offers the option: 3200-3700 Main Street Apparently, accordingly to the Dealer, this is done for 'Safety Reasons'I have had Lexus & Accura cars with in-built Nav systems & neither had this absurd set-up. Is there any way round this? Any updates? I was also told that the DVDs on 09 onward versions dont have this idiosyncracy BUT wont work on the 08 MY. Thks.

^ i agree. i absolutely hate that... but it is what it is.
To the original poster- check to see if you have the actual navigation unit in your trunk. if you don't then look into getting one (if you feel it's truly worth the time and money). if you see it back there, you might just be missing the nav dvd!
mine was missing and the nav did the same as yours when i test drove it, then when i bought the car they came back with spare keys, nav disk, and manuals. popped it into the nav changer in the trunk and viola.. nav worked just fine

Salty..
the inability to go to an exact address comes from German Safety laws.
(they don't even allow caller ID there)
nothin can be done about it on the existing DVD's
