BLACK HOUSING HEADLIGHTS-A MUST HAVE MOD
Black housing headlights are a must have. One of the best mod, really makes the car more aggressive/different.

It looks good on all colors. Chrome headlight always looked outta place on CLS. Only car that looks good withit is a black cls. It's the reason why all New MB cars now have black headlights. It just looks sleeker and not outdated. These headlights shoulda came black outta the factory. I been wantin to do mine for a long time but jus didn't have the DIY skill to due it. I might have a body shop do it. Same goes for eclass. Lot of the e55 guys put tint on their lights to tone down all the chrome. Lots of them paint lights to. Same for c63 guys. APdesign is right, it's a must mod. After seeing djrabbi, cmusgni, and 500man and now APdesign, I think Imma finally do it. It just looks more updated, sleek and hella clean. Actually most automakers now are switching to black housing headlights. It just looks better on all colors.

I guess I'll give it Aa shot and try it myself. I have a very different color (Pewter) and black should blend well with my car. I stil gotta do the wrap on the chrome around windows to finish it off.

apdesign: looks great...I think the black housings work really well with the 1-fin grille.
jaedee: props on the DIY...black car with black housings looks sweet
agreed that the process is mad time consuming, I had done it with my Maxima headlights back in 2009 and retro'd in CCFL angel eyes and TSX projectors.
The mod looks great on every car in here...now I gotta find the time to do this to my CLS

@BenzCLS06 - I totally agreed with you on all points, cleaner/not out dated looking etc.I noticed a lot of newer cars starting to doing black. Some actually have black chrome which which I think looks richer.
@M1RAG3 - yes it contrast well with the larger black areas of the 1-grill fin.
cmusngi - You and S500 wants to make me get the Prior kit. Your rims looks superb. I was always tempered to get that kind of style but though it didn't look good until I saw it on yours.
S500 - I like your black housing better. I wanted to leave some of the chrome trim to give some contrast but I was going to take longer so I opted out and had the entire housing painted flat black.
Overall taking out the bumper was the hardest part. If any of you around in LA wants to do this mod...Juno will be able to help.

What's the process behind doing this? I just stopped by my paint and body guy and told him about this and he looked at me like I was crazy... I understand you have to break the seal of the light to access this, but what's the issue with condensation? Are you able to put back together the lights with no problems? I'm really interested in doing this, but would do it more along the lines of how S500 did with the contrast of black & chrome rather than just the whole thing black.
How much did your guy charge to do this?
@Jaedee - Thanks bro I'll be on the lookout for them. Did you upgrade your lights to HIDs as well?

This mod is on my list, but I'm really concerned about the re-sealing process so I want to take it to a body shop to make sure its done proper. Also, where I live its not easy to work on my car.

The only way condensation could become an issue would be if you were to try and remove the adhesive. (The housings are not sealed, they have vent tubes in them) When warm, the adhesive sticks to itself like no other. As for leaving the chrome accent rings, I thought about it but decided not to because I have a black car. I like the look on S500's car, but the chrome is what I was trying to get away from. I also chose not to paint the reflector behind the blinker to avoid any issues with local pd. As for cost, there are plenty of shops online that will do the lights for around $300, but you have to remove them from the car, which is by far the most difficult part. Alldata lists bumper removal at 2.4 hours. So multiply by your local shop rate and add that to the cost of having them opened and painted. I would assume S500 got a deal because he was doing a ton of work to his car at the same time. It really is a DIY job, unless of course you are dismantling the car for other reasons. As for the HID, I have had them for a couple of years.

If you have time...baking the housing is idea oppose to paint it which I did. Juno used a flat black primer+paint which dried in about an hour. Condensation was one of mine concern, but looking at Juno's record of cars he had done over the past 6 months no condensation issue. Jaedee is correct about the adhesive sticks to itself. Good luck.

Imma stop by my co-workers friends body shop to get an estimate on the way home today.
By the way Apdesign, prior kit or Wald kit would look dope with those wheels u got on. I'm a sucker for fat lips with sleek face. Just says elegant statement. What kinda wheels r they?

You guys act like Prior is easy to get. It isn't. It is at 6-8 week delivery time and the shop who supplies them I think is out. They only carry 5 at a time.
