I am specing a 2014 Gl450 and the dealer is unsure on differences of

(a) code 254 auburn brown / black leather which seems to be the designo seats $ 1620. and

(b) 286 package which is listed as the designo package $4800.

What additionally does the designo package offer ??
What is different about the designo steering wheel ??

On the 350 and 450 to get designo leather you have to get both leather packages as mbtex is the standard. On 550 you just pay the designo upcharge. Designo wheel is wood/leather combo. It's an expensive option for designo leather but it does look sweet.

 

That is not exactly correct. The Auburn Brown Leather and designo Auburn Brown are the same colors however when you order designo you get the diamond-patterned seats, Nappa Leather, the upper dash is covered in designo Auburn Brown Nappa Leather. You also get the headliner in Dinamica which is the suede like surface, and the really plush designo floor mats with Leather edges.

Trust me go designo, it makes the car look and feel like a completely different league!!

What wood trim is most popular with the auburn designo?

 

I think it varies, I've seen a lot of the Brown Satin Ash Open Pore wood with the Auburn Brown online and in dealers. The Black Poplar looks great too.

 

I would say Auburn Designo orders "tend" to be more open minded about Satin Ash... however very striking with Black Piano Lacquer, and the PL wheel is to die for...

I just noticed that the BUILD tool for a GL63 shows a different Designo design - it's not quilted diamond. (it's still 2013)
Is that a change for the GL63? Can we get that on a GL550?

 

The GL63 has a different designo pattern than the 450 or 550. You cannot get that pattern on non-AMG versions

 

Thanks. I wish the dealership had samples. I'm not a fan of the diamond pattern, but i have napa on my x5 now and really like it. I'd like to feel the difference in the leathers. After the build tool for my14 goes online so I know choices and prices, I might go back and press for them to show me samples from inventory. They always seem too busy to deal with special order customers though.

 

Make them help you, they might not have a designo in stock, but if you are spending money with them, they should do their best and take their time to help you get what you want.

 

Oh, that looks so nice. Brown leather just looks so natural. I wonder how that would look with Steel Grey? I've ordered black because Grey and Black work so well together, and I don't have any other exterior color I really love.

I think it would look really nice (Steel Grey over the Auburn Brown). While not a GL, here are some photos of a Steel Grey ML63 over Auburn Brown. It may give you something to think about . . .

 

Those pics look pretty good. I've got a pending order for the Palladium Silver and the Auburn. I was deciding between Iridium, Palladium and Steel Gray. I think it will look good with any of those (hopefully best with Palladium!). It's just not a combination I have been able to see in person at all so it does make you abut nervous.

 

What headliner is used with the regular leather auburn/black seats? (this would be on a GL550 if that matters).
Still waiting for the my14 build to go online.

 

I really like the look of both the satin ash and the piano black with the auburn. I am seriously thinking of changing from black to auburn.

South Ocean 1 thanks for that great picture of the Satin Ash finish , I'm sold. As soon as the '14 GL brought back Palladium Silver and added Auburn brown/black leather I knew those were my colors but the dash options had me leaning towards the Anthracite Poplar but that satin finish looks so good I've gotta go that way. Like the Auburn Brown it's nice to be a little different from legions of Black or Tan interiors and high gloss wood.
