Extended Warranty Price

Hey guys, for a 7 year 100K mile Mercedes extended warranty, what is everyone paying? Does $2,880 sound about right?

I don't think MB offers an OEM warranty beyond 2 years. I.E. 2 more years beyond the original 4yr/50k for total of 6 years, or 2 years beyond original 4yr/50k+1yr CPO = total of 7 years.

i was offered $3000 for a warranty on my 2012 i just bought, it would run about 40 months or 100k after the new car warranty expires. Is that a decent price?

Very hard to tell with out more specifics, i.e. any deductible? What does it cover or not cover etc.

There are many many different types of extended warranty with varying degrees of coverage (or lack there of) and various deductibles. Plus some will cover repairs at any shop while others require you to go to their shop. Some will cover OEM parts while others only cover after market parts. Some covers diagnosis, others don't.

$100 deductible, and it pretty much covers everything minus wear and tear items or surfaces like the wood and leather and glass.

Be very careful when they tell you wear and tear as each company considers different things as wear and tear. You need to get a list of exactly what is covered, or if most things are covered, get a list of exactly what is excluded.

Mercedes OEM extended warranty to 7 years from in service date and 100K miles, no deductible is $2,880 and good at and ONLY at Mercedes dealers. Isn't that a good deal?

That seems decent. Is that price for a E class?

It's for a 2013 E350. Aren't these cars built alot more solid than previous years from 2003-2008?

What's the typical repair bill out of warranty? It can't be more than $3k unless something big breaks like the engine or the transmission. How many things can possibly go wrong with this car?

I'm really not sure if I should get the extended warranty at $2,880 because you are kind of pre-paying for repairs that may or may not happen. If the repairs are required you have already paid $2,880 so any repairs up to that amount reap no benefits.

It's kind of like car insurance, seems like a waste when you don't need it, but when you do need it, its a god send.

the MB OEM warranty can be cancelled and a full refund issued before the 4yr/50k is up. So you can always buy it now and if the car is very reliable, cancel and get a refund before the 4yr is up.

Some people say the previous generations while MB and Chrysler were the same company were not as reliable. Based on my parents experience (they buy a new MB every couple of years), I would have to say that seems about accurate. Their previous MB's from around 2003 - 2010 were very unreliable. their current MB (2011 C300) has been rock solid. not one issue in the 2 years they've owned it.

I'm hoping my 2013 E350 will be just as reliable, but I went ahead and bought an extended warranty anyway. I'll have 4 years to change my mind and get a refund.

What kind of warranty and who did you buy it from and how much?

Amazing how many DAG/MB problems are blamed on DAG's takeover and managing of Chrysler.
Regardless, MB has always had a mediocre reliability rating going back for many decades. Not bashing MB, but that is history. One problem is that the cost of parts and labor are horrendous compared to most Asian and American makes.
For the first time, I am planning on purchasing extended warranty on a car. Have had the MB in for warranty work that I know would cost into the thousands all together. No engine, transmission or suspension work-just electronics and "trim."
I look at it as insurance against the $10,000 engine, brake, suspension or transmission failure that takes days to repair. And all the little electronic demons just waiting out there.
I have been quoted $2,899 to extend for three years. This is with dealer waiving 15% surcharge.
Sort of like carrying comprehensive and collision insurance when you don't have to.

$2,899 for 3 years and how many miles?

My local dealer quoted me $2,449 for 3 years 75k miles.

In another forum there is a reference to a dealer in Austin that gives significant discounts on extended warranty, I'm trying to reach that dealer for a quote but the finance manager who handles it is on vacation right now.

ok, just got the deal done through:

Erin Mahre
Mercedes of Santa Rosa

Her cell phone is 707-217-5017

$2,880 no 15% surcharge until the end of this month and that's the out the door price.

It was painless and quick.
