SL55’s (Y-pipe + AirBox & Filters) in my C32
Well, as I promised this is one of the 2 new mods….the next one is awesome.
I have driven the car 20 miles and it fells different…of course quicker.
I will work the weekend to fit the air-box correctly because it needs some modifications but nothing drastic. For example, the rear support does work with the stock SL55 air box, but the front one does not much perfect. The room for the air filters is fine and it needs some minor modifications.

Finally, I ask Ben for a good price for the evosport’s header….and I was ignored:

SL55 bits should do
just as you've said,and I'm not doubting your results.However,the
dyno chart posted has a problem...the 1st run (red) shows higher torque from about 3400-3900 rpm,yet the horsepower yield is lower than the 2nd (blue) dyno run.This is not possible.

I apologize if you thought I was ignoring you. For the past 2 weeks, I have only been briefly scanning posts on MBWorld. I just had eye surgery, and I am waiting for my eyes to fully recover, as I currently experience dryness and headaches from staring at the computer screen. I will continue to frequent the boards over the coming weeks as I recover, but it will probably be a month until I am fully capable.
Our headers have always been priced at $1,799, except for during pre-sales which are long since over.

this is another set up....I believe with just SL55-Ypipe....and it could be possible becasue that day I "dynoed" at 95 F ambient temperature.
I have not dyno the Full SL55 intake= (inlet pipes, air-boxs, filters, 2 short pipes, and Y-pipe) app. $400 total in a local dealer.

Take a hard look at
the rpm band I mentioned...something's just not right with either the red torque or hp plot at those engine speeds.I agree that your intake enhancements are all good ideas...but this particular dyno comparison is weird from 3400 to 3900 rpm.

Steve Clark, I have no dyno my car with Full SL55 intake, just the SL55 Y-pipe help but not as much the full intake set-up.
Shine, I finished to install it...with everything in order...wasn't that difficult...my car has now 25 miles and I must say it is a completely different machine, more loud, no loss of power in all the power band and better mid & high rpms. On the highway..... just amazing. Shine, I can not get a A/f ratio reading, but I am using the SL55 stock filters; nonetheless, remember I am here in Colorado at 5,285 ft...like 1,700 mt above the sea.
I will dyno next week.

Now the SL55 air-box does feed that region gently. Steve Clark, perhaps that was the reson because with just the SL55 Y-pipe I got within 3400 to 3900 rpm higher torque and hp....after those engine speeds the stock C32 air-box does not feed with sufficient air the Y-pipe..this is my theory, dyno will confirm.
finally, of course I Thermo-isolated the SL55 Airbox, and the engine after everything installed looks massive.

Have you or others that installed the SL55 "Y" noticed how the hoses now rub several clips on the firewall. Especially the drivers side. Have you done anything about this, and are you afraid it might wear thru or tear the hose?

Do you have a part number for the box and the inlet pipe, does the inlet pipe fit straight up to the front of the car? Can you discribe in more detail on the mod that you need to make for the "foward feet" under the SL airbox?

You are right, V8 airbox did not align with the footing on the V6 engine… but the solution is very simple:

The rear supports do much doing a little room, but for the front ones I used the metallic support of the C32 airbox to relocate and align the V8 box in a V6 engine. My philosophy of operation is always use MB material, for quality and consistency.

You are right that the intercooler reservior and the radiator reservior are the same on a stock car. The reason I say insulating it will do nothing is because the radiator is dumping hot coolant into the reservior. It might help until the car gets warmed up, but after that it will do nothing.

both of you guys are right......I am just comming back from the Dyno with big ....... the SL55 airbox + inlets give me 9.5 rwhp and 4.2 rwtq ...... no bad for $330

I took a screw driver with a * T-25 and removed that one clip (See photo), which rubs against the SL55 hose…

..and I just installed “occulted” at the same place but beneath the metallic lamina that was originally adjusted ….that it. This is a MUST for everybody that is doing the SL55 Y-pipe set-up.
Now, for people that are going to go for the Full-SL55 intake, there is an additional modification on the engines “room”, which is the relocation of this cable at the driver side:

I did my full SL55 intake mod, big thanks to Pierre for the detail tips and pictures.
First impression after the install, lower and more agressive intake sound at low to mid speeds plus better throttle response at all times. It totally change the character of the car, it opens up the car's high end acceleration even more.
I easily out-ran a 993 C4s from about 60 to 120mph last night.
My performance mods so far are Evosports ODPS, removed resonator and secondary cat, full SL55 intake.
First impression after the install, lower and more agressive intake sound at low to mid speeds plus better throttle response at all times. It totally change the character of the car, it opens up the car's high end acceleration even more.
