Worth the extra cost ?

Hi all,

New to the forum.

I once owned an A class and liked it. It was only a company car so was bog standard.

My company have offered me a Skoda Octavia as a company car or a £500 a month allowance to choose what I want.

I dont really want to spend more than 13k but I've seen a beautiful A 220 d motor sport addition. It seems to have all the extras including a panoramic roof. It's done 45k miles and it's a 2016 model (automatic) Car dealer is asking for £16,995.

So it's above my budget. I've seen other models such as the A180 AMG which is within my budget.

So. Is it worth spending more and going for the higher spec ? Approx 3k more ? It certainly looks much nicer.

Car will be used in and out of London and motorway driving.

Also a little worried about buying a diesel car. It is euro 6 but would I lose loads of money eventually.

I won't be taking up the option of the company car.
Thanks

Hi Ben, can You tell more about Octavia? engine equipment and this a220d +a180amg?
Having diesel car in UK will give You some extra profit? I mean tax etc? As far as I know a220d is the most powerful diesel in Aclass and it is MB engine. If You are calm driver should go into a180 if sometimes do more mileage on motorway/highway take diesel. Between a220 and a180 would compare equipment. A220 got bigger brakes wheels, other suspension ( for being havier )

Hiya, thanks for you reply.

The Octavia is a 2.0ltr Diesel. Will be the standard range I would have thought, its out the question anyway. I have decided to buy an A Class.

I have seen and A200 which has low miles, all white with the night pack. Its a beautiful car. Originally I wanted an A220 but cant seem to find the one I want with low enough miles. I need a car by the end of February.

I wanted to understand the difference in performance between the 2? I drove the A200 yesterday and thought it felt a bit under powered, I should have maybe tried to drive it a bit harder but didn't want to go to mad as I wasn't used to the car. Majority of A class Autos seem to be diesel. I do a mixture of town driving and highways etc. I think ill be doing around 8-10k a year as I also use the train.

Looks wise, the A220 and A200 are the same. A220 has additional features but im more interested in the performance of the car.

a200 petrol or diesel? If petrol i wouldnt recommend this engine. If perfomance + petrol consider only 220 250, diesel only 220d. Those 3 engines are 2.0L and are MB not Renault ( but R's diesels are very good so other lower diesels are good too but not powerful as 2.0 )

Personaly dont like diesels at all but if You consider diesel engines and do like them, 3k is worth to add to little more powerful engine

A 200 d
Diesel – 1,950 cc, 4-cylinder, 150 (110)/3,400 [] 320/1,400–3,200
8G-DCT 8-speed automatic
Acceleration 0–62 mph sec 8.1
70.6 mpg

A 220 d
Diesel – 1,950 cc, 4-cylinder, 190 (140)/3,800 [] 400/1,600–2,600
8G-DCT 8-speed automatic
Acceleration 0–62 mph sec 7.0
67.3 mpg

Not much in it, not fussed on what fuel it takes. On one had it would be good to get the 220 but I may lose the A200 which is in perfect condition and has low miles.

Do You got advertisement of those 200d and 220d?
Oh if a200 got perfect condintion and lower miles and 220d is opposite so this is hard decision which You have to make
If not fussed what fuel take petrol 220 or 250
