Thumbs down Mercedes-Benz AMG Scam

Mercedes-Benz AMG Scam

I purchased a Mercedes-Benz AMG A45 from an official dealership, just one year old, and covered by the two-year Mercedes-Benz Certified warranty.

Well, the interior rearview mirror vibrates constantly, causing blurry and distorted vision. After nine months and multiple visits to authorized workshops, they replaced the mirror several times, even replaced the front windshield — and still couldn’t fix the issue.

Finally, after persistent pressure, I was told this is a “common feature” of AMG models, and that nothing can be done. Case closed.
I have all kinds of documentation, videos, WhatsApp messages, and audio recordings from the brand's technicians, where they explicitly acknowledge the continuous and annoying vibration in the vehicle. From dream to nightmare of AMG

Let’s be clear:

If it were a “common feature,” they would’ve known from day one — instead of wasting nine months of my time and resources.

A vibrating, blurry mirror is a safety issue. Impaired visibility is not acceptable in any vehicle, much less a premium AMG.

👉 I consider this a scam by Mercedes-Benz: selling a vehicle with a clear defect and refusing to take responsibility.

I do not recommend buying a Mercedes AMG to anyone.

You say authorized workshops, are we talking actual AMG dealerships?
Sounds like you got a car with a harmonic balancer issue or something similar and the “authorized workshops” wouldn’t or couldn’t find the actual issue causing the vibration and resorted to the age old excuse crap shops use… it’s common issue.
Hardly enough to condemn an entire brand.
Have you contacted AMG directly? Have you tried actual AMG dealerships, possibly in other areas around where you live, or even another country if you’re European??

Edit: After looking at your profile, your country is set as Spain. In Madrid there are 13 actual Mercedes/AMG dealers that are not authorized shops, but real full fat dealers. Have you tried any of them? Mobility Centro seems to be the largest Mercedes dealer franchise in Spain and has 10 locations in and around Madrid alone. If you’ve been to several of these then you should definitely escalate your issue to Mercedes/AMG head offices!!

Do you happen to have a video showing this? Would require a steady camera to really show it. Does this happen while stationary or while in motion? If you google vibrating rear view mirror you'll find posts about this happening in all kinds of vehicles. Short of the mirror itself being loose, which I would expect replacing it should have fixed, at the end of the day an AMG has higher NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) than a basic normal car. Comes with the turf. AMG doesn't even warranty rattles, because given how stiff these vehicles are, something will get knocked loose sooner or later. TBH, I'm not even sure I would notice this in the first place, because vibration is just part of driving a car like this. Stiffness in the chassis and suspension comes with certain trade offs. Either the chassis and everything is floppy and absorbs unwanted vibrations, or it's tight and stiff and transfers vibrations to the cabin. The higher trim AMGs like my C63S have dynamic engine mounts to reduce unwanted vibrations from the engine reaching the cabin when stationary or just driving around normally and then they tighten up when the car is driven faster and more dynamically to make the engine move in unison with the chassis. It's been a while since I drove an A45S at an AMG event, but I've lived with performance cars for many years, so as I said, vibrations is part of the package.

Even if they worked for 9 months on it, doesn't mean its a scam or that they didn't genuinely try to see if there's a fault with the mirror mount. I would recommend if you have the chance to drive another A45S and see if the same thing happens there.

I cannot echo your sentiment of not buying an AMG, but owning an AMG or any performance car for that matter comes with certain downsides. What previous vehicles have you owned? Is this your first performance car? Comparable cars to this would be an M2 or Audi RS3, although Audis are generally softer by design. Higher up would be cars like the M3 and C63. Have you owned anything at that level before? All performance brands also have softer versions of their models such as the A35 or the BMW M240 or Audi S3. Those are not quite as harsh as the full performance models and will have reduced NVH.

Yes this was a very common issue with the W205 C 43, it was driveshaft issue. It could also be caused by bent wheels, alignment, poorly balanced wheels or certain types of damage.
