When are those two Racers getting married? Need more epic battles in 20 or so years between the Hamilton's Rosberg's Alonso's and the Vettel's.

Excited About the GT - A Way Back to Mercedes-AMG?
My ninth and last Mercedes was the 2016 AMG GT S Edition 1 that my wife and I owned along with a 2015 911 Turbo S. After a year or two, I was in the process of ordering an AMG GT C Roadster but the used car manager that the sales guy called in to weigh in on my low-mileage, totally perfect GT S said: “after 6 months, launch editions don’t mean anything” and “if consigned it will just sit”. I had looked at the new Aston Martin DB11 and knew that I could get a launch edition below MSRP. I thought it would be cool to own a V12, 600 HP, 200 mph car at least once, so I bought the DB11 instead. A couple years later, I was able to get a build slot for a GTR PRO, but as the GM was reviewing my build (to ensure that it wasn’t pink with blue polka dots in case I got slammed by a beer truck before delivery), he mentioned that he had already been offered $100K over for an allocation. I thought that was too steep for the PRO, so I passed. Since then, I’ve only owned Porsches - a 2018 GT3, a 2019 Cayenne e-hybrid and the cars I currently own and on order as shown below.
When owning the GT S and the Turbo S, the GT S received 100 times more compliments, shouts of “great car”, gas station convos, and thumbs up from S-Class and Bentley drivers to Audi hatchbacks to rice rockets than the “blending in” and comparatively silent 911 Turbo S (the 992 version is way better). The 911 rode better, allowed for more precise placement of a wheel and had a nicer interior, but the AMG GT driving experience was always amazing.
I mention my history because I am excited that the new AMG GT might be the opportunity to get back into the AMG community. I like the styling and the usual M-B technology. I once made the case to the GM of my Porsche dealer that Porsche should make a two-door Panamera GT to compete with the former S63 AMG Coupe, Bentley Continental, Aston Martin DB11, BMW 8-Series, etc. Maybe the Taycan is the right platform nowadays. If this GT handles well and has the HP/torque to handle the additional weight, I think it could be a great sports/GT car. Porsche offers a lightweight package for the Turbo S: rear seat delete, lightweight glass, carbon fiber bucket seats, reduced sound deadening, etc. As mentioned by others, AMG might create a track-focused version of this car well before a Black Series.
In 2009, I was part of a focus group to comment on the design of Mercedes’ planned 911-killer. At the time, I had the two cars that were of interest for attendees: a 2009 SL63 and a 2005 911 Carrera S. Then as now, I think Mercedes wants to dominate this space. Now that Porsche has gone public, there is a clear focus on profitability. Porsche is producing a steady stream of “heritage” vehicles made in limited numbers with high MSRPs and that command ADMs in the range of $200K and more. This is limiting production capacity for “regular” 911s. If Mercedes can produce this new GT S in quantities that reasonably meet order demands without crazy ADMs for those who don’t need the first AMG GT on their block, I think they’ll have a something special. I can’t wait to see one in person and drive one. I’ll look forward to others’ posts about what they are learning about the AMG GT.

Optional 2+2 seating?
Michael Schiebe said in a prepared statement. “Our new GT is clearly the top-of-the-line product in our diversified portfolio and is therefore not only AMG’s youngest brand shaper, but also a clear commitment to the sports car made in Affalterbach. With the new dimensional concept and optional 2+2 seats, we are directly responding to the wishes of our customers.”

It isn't just the weight that they added, it is where they added the weight as well. This car is no longer a 911 competitor, it is more of a Bentley CGT competitor with this layout. Beautiful car, but just a completely different segment now. This is sad for me because I really love the 190 platform on and off track.

Something else I read that I didn't pick up on originally is that it is no longer a front mid engine config. I'd assume this is due to no longer being a transaxle which I did hear straight away. Good looking yes, but it's going to drive like a totally different car.

I don't know, proportions are quite different and much less supercar-y imo. All I see is a SL with a roof, some different headlights and taillights, the grille from the AMG GT Black Series and some performance bits, and voila!

And the taillights are awful! The first thing I said is that the car has an identity crisis. It doesn't know what it wants to be and it's trying to be too many things at once in the name of "practicality."
I, for one, won't be making Home Depot runs in my fun car. No need for the seats to fold down. That was so strange to me!

Mine as well. In one of the reviews they said the jump seat is an option. But they also said that if you don't get the jump seat then there is a fixed wall between the cargo area and behind the front seats. So to make the most of the hatch you will have to opt for the rear seats. (I think that's in the Remove Before Racing review.)

As much as I dislike the extra weight, and the distribution of where that weight ends up, I'm not too disgusted by the exterior, in fact it's definitely going on me.
I'll say again: never discount the ability of the AMG engineers to take this car and make the base GT almost as fast as an 'old' generation 'R' on most road courses. It's the extra power and AWD nature of the car. Add sticky tyres and it'll be a weapon. The actual 'R' version of the new car will be very quick, albeit at the (high) cost of expendables.

I’m a broken record beating a dead horse on a ship that sailed 20 years ago. But I would easily overlook the weight and other subjective criticisms for a manual transmission. I’m craving something different than BMWs and Porsches.

2021 AMG E63s Wagon
Muscle Memory
As a trucker in my second career it's so satisfying floating gears in a Semi fully loaded with 80,000lbs on and off road in the Permian Basin Oilfields. One missed shift could be catastrophic! Then on the way home after a 14-hour day forget to use the clutch in my then 2012 CRZ Hybrid with the rare 6spd manual transmission option! Will always keep a manual transmission car and motorcycle in my Collection.
Almost bought a white M2 6-stick in 2020 at El Paso Texas Dealership. Was surprised by its ample front seat room for the driver and passenger. Instead placed an order for the 2020 AMG E63s Wagon. Pandemic pushed my order to MY2021. Traded 2012 CRZ Hybrid on a 2020 CRV Hybrid that the wife currently drives at our GA Residence while waiting 15-months for AMG Wagon delivery to Mercedes-Benz of Atlanta NE May 2021.

Perhaps the Koenigsegg CC850 is what you are looking for. A unique take on manually shifting a multi clutch transmission. Like AMG, Koenigsegg has developed a multi clutch transmission. Although it's mechanically different from AMG's MCT, it works on the same principals of using clutches and compound gearing to select the current gear ratio. AMG does it with a planetary gearbox and an additional clutch between the engine and transmission like a manual transmission, whereas Koenigsegg does it with clutched compound gear pairs, no flywheel and no additional clutch between the engine and transmission. They simply added a clutch pedal and a manual shift gate to allow the driver to operate the transmission like a manual transmission. AMG could technically do the same. They could add a clutch pedal to manually operate the main clutch, and have a manual shift gate to select the gear ratio via the internal clutches in the planetary gear train.
