GT/C192/R192: GT 43 future
GT 43 future
Hi,
I'm pretty new to the forum and MB/AMG, but am in the market for a new car soon and have settled between the CLE 53 or a lightly used GT55.
However, because Mercedes is course correcting by removing the 4 cylinder on some cars and going with 6 or 8 like most of us want, I wanted to see if any of you longterm brand followers think the GT 43 will get a 6 cylinder soon? Obviously, I know they wouldn't put a V8 in it since that's what the 55/63 are for, but I cant imagine the 43 sells well.
Also, it seems absurd that they'd put an inline 6 in the CLE series and then have a 4 in the GT43. Id buy the 43 in a heartbeat with the 6.
Naive question, I'm sure, but what do you all think?
Thank you.

I haven't come across anything regarding the GT43 motor getting a change. The only thing I've heard about is likely a flat plane V8 for the C192 black series that is coming. Im sure that baby will be awesome and crazy expensive. I just ordered a GT55 with an April 7 build. I wanted to get a lightly used 55 but had a hard time getting the options/colors lined up. I agree the 4 cylinder is odd in the GT.
Looks like there is a mild refresh coming for 2027 with the GT 2-door. There are some spy photos of one rolling around with different headlights and probably the new steering wheel with buttons. Will probably find out what other if any changes by June/July.
I'm specifically shopping the GT 43 coupe because I discovered it hat the same high strung engine thats in the CLA 45 after finding out its the same engine in the Lotus Emira thats also on my shopping list. I'm not a V8 guy or a Mercedes guy though, so I'm not the guy to ask about brand future. With everything going on right now though, there is no way i'd get something that chews through gas. A plug in hybrid like the E53 would be my preference if the 4cylinder was going.

The GT 43 will not get a 6 cylinder engine, but it will be discontinued and most likely replaced by a GT 53 with the 6 cylinder engine. That's what's happening with the 43 models elsewhere. The C43 is being replaced by a C53 and the C63 will be discontinued based on what we know so far. The GLC 43 has already been replaced by the GLC 53. The M139 engine in the GT 43 etc. does not meet Euro 7, so it has to go away. High strung engines like this one are no longer possible. Euro 7 has a limit on the maximum horsepower per liter and a requirement for engines to run with lambda = 1 at all times. Engines like the M139 run rich under high loads to keep it cool and that no longer flies. Ironically things are going back to larger displacement engines. AMG is coming out with a new Euro 7 compliant V8.
