Motor Trend must have gotten their hands on an absoluteringer, because their car does everything exceptionally well, especially in theareas my AMG is worst ie. steering and turning !! I agree about the engine and transmission though – both are excellent. Very impressive. (I have had both cars - like the AMG better). Joe https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-gt-gt...ml#post6690755
Willow Springs was one of my home tracks when I was racing in SCCA. A stock car turning a 1:27 is just incredible. And on street tires! That is such a fast time. Unbelievable. I raced in S2 - Sports 2000 - and our spec engine was a 2 liter (hence S2) Ford Pinto engine. Just a plain old single overhead cam 2 liter engine. Couldn't do a damn thing to it and stay in spec. Most had about 145 hp. The cars were very light - my memory says 1,320 lbs with driver was the minimum (many of us ran ballast) and if we were cranking on a very good day we might run a 1:24 at Wilow.
The AMG GTS is really a total monster. Wonderful car. Seeing Randy going through all the corners that I am so familiar with was lots of fun. Seeing him run out to edge of turn 9 - Oh my! That is the corner that if you nail it, all the speed carries up into Turn 1 and gives you needed seconds. It makes me want to suit up and get back in a race car!
This is a photo from back in day with me in front in Turn 4 at Willow.
