Not sure what to do guys.. I'm 23 and so is my wife. We purchased a house together full cash last year meanwhile I stretched to get the facelifted W212 E63 S AMG. The spec wasn't entirely what I wanted and honestly the GTS looks amazing. Now, with my wife without a job, the only way to get the GTS is to sell my car for a year and save for a year. Note: I would be carless during this time, although it wouldn't be a big problem getting around as there is public transport. Problem is I'm pretty attached to my car. We all know how hard it is to go without a car.We have limited money in our current time as we purchased a house and she is unemployed now. She probably won't be employed for a while either. Would it be worth it? - is the driving much different? -- anyone have experience with both and have an opinion (I've driven this on the track in exotics racing las vegas, and it was good, but I forget all about how it feels already since it has been 2 years ago). Or could I have just as much fun in the E63. The depreciation is strong on these cars. So it's like a buy and hold situation for me. I want to get a car and keep it for a long while. If I want the GTS, I'd have to do it this year (sell and go carless as to get rid of the car before it depreciates more meanwhile the GTS depreciates to a level I can afford comfortably next year), otherwise I'd have to save for 5 years minimum to get my dream car if I want to be okay in other aspects of my life while continuing to keep the E63. But output of cash will be significantly more at that time vs just selling and holding out. Hope you guys can give me what your opinions are. Thanks guys
First it sounds like you need to think more fiscally responsible.
Second get rid of an e63 and go car less for a year so you can buy a GTS
Take a step back and think about this.

we purchased a house in full cash. I usually commute via public transport rather than parking a flashy car in a sketchy downtown parking lot, which frequents breakins. I work often. I don't see what's wrong with this - other than not wanting to invest so much into cars. I'm looking to buy and hold. We all have different incomes. Some have to save for their dream car. Just weighing timing.

I'll rent you my gts for a year.
I remember when I was 18 and tried to buy an M3... The insurance company said they wouldn't cover me until I turned 25 and all I could think about was who needs a cool car when they are 25?? 25 seemed old and washed up to me at that point. 14 years later here I am still enjoying cars and blowing money on them.
It's your life so do whatever is going to make you happy but just understand there is always going to be another "dream car" to chase. Right now doesn't seem like the best timing for you. I would keep the e63 and save up to get the GT successor when it comes out down the road.

If you don't need a car then get rid of the e63 and revisit in a year

I guess that's true. I always feel like I'm rushing my life, pushing for the next best thing. Never really satisfied with what I've worked so hard to achieve, there's always something better. The desire is so strong. I guess the GT can wait.

Any time you post a subjective question like this in the public forums, expect what you got. You open yourself to judgement and supposition but its fair since you asked the question.
I've seen much much worse over on the M3/M4 boards though

No lecture on finances from me. First I want to say that it is very impressive that you and your wife purchased a house at a young age with no mortgage, well done and that is a very exciting time in life that some soon forget. Second, I am sorry to hear that your wife lost her job, she'll find another one, so stay positive and keep her positive during her time searching.
As for the car situation, do what you feel is best and makes you happy. The GTS is a great car and when you finally get one you will thoroughly enjoy it. I had a 14' W212 E63s, and sorry to say, but I hated the car. The exterior is boring, the interior is just plain ugly and boring as well, BUT, the M157 engine is a beast and made up for the cars bad looks(kind of like an ugly chick with a great set of cans,,,lol). I'm sure we will see you posting sometime within a year talking about your new GTS, and when you do, enjoy it.

You paid off your home, impressive at your age.
If you can afford to buy the GTS in cash, whether you decide to finance or not, then go for it. Life is short.
