Yet another GTS issue...the hood
Well, I might be the first want to report this. While the dealership replaced the oil seal on my engine, they discovered one of the shock brackets pulling loose from my hood. My guess is that this is not an isolated episode and I would advise everybody to check theirs. Their solution was to get a new hood, paint it and put it on the car. I told them absolutely not. I will not except a non-factory finished hood on my Edition 1. I would honestly rather have somebody put a couple of small Tig welds on it instead of having the body shop clowns try to match my paint. As everyone knows, this never turns out the way you want it.
In three months I've gone from loving this car more than any other car I have owned to wanting to sell it. Too bad I have $10,000 worth of wheels and tires on order.....

Unfortunately, you are not the first to notice this, have a problem with it or talk to Mercedes about it. And others' responses have been the same as yours. Weld and paint. Why this problem? They use rivets! That's right rivets! It is the same on the doors on the hinge on the inside. I checked mine out and they're fine - for now...but it is an area I will watch.
Sorry about your experience.

2021 Porsche TTS
Well that sucks. I agree with your stand. Let us know how it turns out.
Still pretty minor stuff and that shouldn't make you hate the car as long as it gets resolved and does not persist. Drive and press the pedal, you'll fall in love again.

I guarantee you Porsche doesn't have these issues on their 911 Turbo.

I'm not so worried about Carfax because I don't think anyone really trusts them anymore, but I am concerned for the same reason you mention Carfax. I have an Edition 1 car and I don't want it to be "modified" by having them replace the hood. It won't be an original car if they do that. The same reason why I am keeping my Edition 1 wheels and tires even though I am putting on new HRE's. Also, I just know that there's no way that any body shop guy is going to be able to do a perfect factory finish on the hood. In addition, why would I want to put on a new hood that hasn't been re-engineered in any way and will likely have the same fatigue problem at the shock bracket?! I would rather have someone put a nice TIG weld on the area and only have to repaint a small area UNDER the hood. I would probably have them do it on the other side too because it is also likely have the same problem.

Nope. Said they had to send it back to MB so that they could study it further to determine why it failed. Which seemed like a pretty simple answer...they used cheap rivets instead of bolts... which have been used successfully forever. My feeling is they probably didn't want someone with a hood from their flagship vehicle showcased in his house/garage telling the story over and over of how it failed.

A hood hinge is not a big deal. I agree it shouldn’t happen, but if it’s a new model, every car will have issues. When are you guys going to learn that if you’re buying a new car in its first model year, it’s not going to be flawless!
I’ve had a few minor issues even with a 2019MY GT, but it’s still by far the best car at anywhere near the price. I drove a 992 recently and it was a complete bore. I couldn’t wait to return it to the dealership. Getting back into the GTC was a revelation!

Super-old post - but I guarantee you 911s are worse, not better. Have you watched Nick Murray’s channel on YouTube? He’s had 2 911s (991.1 and 991.2), both taken back under the Lemon Law, as the dealer could not repair various issues.

Not sure what necro bump means, but I’m sure you’ll tell me...
It’s just a pet peeve that people complain when their first gen first model year car has issues. It’s to be expected that it will have issues.
Another funny thing is the OP didn’t agree to a new hood because he wanted to keep the GTS “forever”. Well guess what 2 years later, it was sold! And I fail to see how a new factory hood will diminish value. All that matters is the install and paint is done right.
And then he complained that a seal replacement required removal of the engine. Ok... so what?
Just trying to “equalize” some of the ridiculous complaints in this forum.

Had not seen this thread previously - and reading it from the top made me laugh.
This was the punchline!!!
OP: I need a new hood. No way on my Edition 1. How dare AMG??
All: OMG! Rivets! On an AMG! How dare they?!!
OP: No way I am having a new hood! This is an Edition 1 for chrissake!
All: Absolutely right! No new hood!!
OP: They cant paint it, it will kill the residuals, this is an Edition 1!!!! Rivets!!!!
[2 years later]
All: Hey, OP, what happened to your car??!!
OP: I got a new hood!No offence meant - it was just funny.
As we know, rivets are used on aluminum joining - even on aircraft. And on the SLS and practically every supercar where you have an aluminum frame.
Doesn't explain why there should be fatigue, or they come part, but I do think this is an isolated issue. Not had one on my AMG.
And as you have probably found
[1] most AMG specialist dealerships are very good at matching paints (except for designo solarbeam yellow and magno selenite grey which even the main factory would struggle with)
[2] it does not diminish the value of your Edition 1 (out of curiosity, what are the residuals on an Edition 1 compared to a GTC/GTS given this is not an exotic or a classic)
[3[ hopefully you enjoy the car as much as you once did
[4] Tesla Model S, every McLaren, Porsches, Audi R8 are legendary for their electrical and mechanical faults. And Jaguars, Range Rovers and Lambos for their shimmy and rattles
