AMG needs to go back to the days when they built the SLS. It was and still is a great example of what AMG used to be. I'm hoping that the new GTR and GT Black Series will help to redeem the brand.

In their eyes, no redemption is necessary. They are selling a hellava lot more cars than ever, and making money doing it. Which is after all the purpose of the enterprise.
You are an outlier; your solution is to buy the older models that fit your notion of what an AMG should be, or buy the current offerings used, after the first big hit of depreciation. They represent decent "value" at the depreciated price-points.

4, the current GT S, a '13 SL63 (hated), '10 E63 ( OK, with reservations), '05 E63 (the real one - loved it, in a stone-age sorta way).
I'm no fan-boy of the cars, my main motivation is the store is within walking distance of my office, and being in a small market (Syracuse NY) they treat me well. I rate the GT S as best of the lot, and ahead of the 'couple P-cars I've driven, both Carrera S's, one 'vert, the other a coupe. Perhaps not a fair comparison, but that's what I've got. I have to also add that I'm a '60's big-block V8 kinda Neanderthal so that majorly colors my sensibilities.

Yes. Or more to the point, the sentiment you expressed. A valid one, but also one which doesn't acknowlege business mandates. As a great rock group once sang, 'you can't always get what you want.....' etc.

AMG is doing what Porsche did with the Cayenne then Panamera then Macan. It is unfortunately related to the bottom line.
I do not like the "whoring" of the AMG brand but as long as the lower models can pay for the engineering of the top dogs, then it has its appeal.
The SLS was a great car but due to its very low production level, the overall fit and finish was not spectacular and much lower than the new breed like the GTS.
I believe AMG has a winner in the GT. It's not for everyone and I like it that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the GT doesn't have an LSD right? Can you feel the difference? Do you drive with TC off sometimes? Do you like to power slide?

I think the GT gets a mechanical and the GTS gets an electronic. Im sure someone else can articulate the difference better.

I drove the GTS aggressively but not enough to let the tail out. The GT has a mechanical diff compared to the electronic one in the GTS. I am still in break in period so have not driven the car too hard.
I do like to power slide and for now, the car feels much more planted than my C63 or CLS63. I will compare it to a 911. It is not tail happy and puts the power down quite effectively.

FYI--the last six cars I've bought!
2012 new cls550
2013 new cls63
2014 new ml550
2014 new ml63
2014 new e63s
2017 new 911 turbo s cab
Also, have my MB dealers first and maybe only allocation for the GTBS when it comes out.
You should really do your homework before you look foolish

Both are LSDs. The electronic one is called eLSD and some of them are brake based (ESP).
I wonder if you can tell the difference between both cars in hard acceleration.

Well, in hindsight it appears my foolishness was assuming you had adult reading comprehension skills. My comment was directed at the sentiment you were expressing, not you personally as I had [then] no way of knowing who exactly you are. With your above quoted post, that has been cleared up. Apologies for ruffling your sensitive feathers.
FWIW, if as it seems, you define yourself by the cars you've bought, or may buy, you might consider working on that self-esteem issue. It's just a car, man....

I made this thread to provide owners with information... Not to be personally attacked.
Instead of insulting a person you do not know anything about, go enjoy a rack and beer at the dinosaur and take time to reflect. When I would work in Syracuse we never left without a few racks to go. Good stuff!
Peace!

Done and done along with the Cobb AP.... the car just drives, pulls, goes, and sounds like a battleship. Sam is a good friend of mine for over 10 years and really takes great care of his Porsche Community friends.
You knew that was a typo Jim
I had an 04 and still remember the day when I got it and could not believe I had a car that 516 lb/ft of torque stock. Boy how times have changed.

Couldn't agree more! No tune yet for the 17. Just talked with Sam last night. He's at SEMA having fun. Great guy for sure!

Different strokes for different folks. While some models of the Porsche models may be "boring", there are some cool cars that have some unique and cool interior such as my 911R with the dark tarpan brown leather with houndstooth cloth inserts. There are some exceptions to every rule, or in this case model.
