PrePaid Maintence
finally picking the car up this weekend after snow delays. They informed me there is no recall on my car.
they are pushing the Prepaid maintence. I believe they quoted me $2800 for three years. Sounds a little steep. Is it right? Or should i opt for pay as you go. I doubt I’d be saving any money going with the Prepaid.
tire and wheel coverage is $3300 for three years. That I’m thinking of getting. One bent rim and it pays for itself.

My understanding is that the tire and wheel will now transfer but the Prepaid Service is exactly as it states “Prepaid” so NO refund or transfer on the unused portion.
All of us will use these cars differently so you need to price out todays cost on a oil service aka SERVICE A and the next scheduled services that are mileage or time driven over the time you plan on keeping the car (look in the owners manuel). Match that up with their premium cost and make the best decision for you.
IN THE END, I am not so sure that it doesn’t make sense to “self insure” instead of letting them use our money.

My car will be used mainly to and from work. 5.5 miles each way. I put roughly 4-5k miles/ year on the car. Maybe some spirited weekend driving.
plan to garage it during the winter months.
Guess s I’ll pass on Prepaid maintenance . I’ll check the Tire protection and see if it’s transferrable if I’d sell the car prematurely

On the tire and wheel, consider putting aside the quoted premium in a self insured tire and wheel fund. If you damage one it is going to be only one- - curb rash etc. If more tires and wheels are involved, then it will more than likely be accompanied with some other damage that is covered in your existing Comp Insurance policy less any deductible if it is your fault.
NOW TAKE THAT SAVED MONEY AND GO GET YOUR CAR WRAPPED TODAY BEFORE ANYTHING HAPPENS!!

I bent a front rim and it was $1,350 for a new one. I've had a nail in a rear tire, which was $450 to replace. Personally, I wouldn't get the wheel/tire package. I found a takeoff set of my wheels on eBay for $3,500 and now have spares for all wheels and can sell those if nothing ever happens. (Granted, the wife isn't found of four wheels hanging out in the garage)

If your insurance carrier covers windshield replacement with a small deductible then you probably don’t need to have ‘Clearplex’ applied. One caveat: taking the car to a road course can destroy a windshield in one weekend, so if you plan on tracking it, then get it protected.

Do you mean the CF roof? If so I’d get it covered in Xpel Ultimate or Suntek Ultra to keep it pristine.

https://clearplex.com/
I have used it on multiple cars over many years. It does a great job of protecting the windshield from all but the absolute worst of road debris. Only once have I had road debris pierce the film and cause damage to the windshield. I’m convinced that what was only an easily repaired small defect would have been a huge crack if I didn’t have it installed that time.
It is extremely installer dependent even more so than a PPF install as to the outcome since the Clearplex film is much more difficult to apply. When done well it’s difficult to know that it’s installed from the inside and almost impossible to notice from the outside. A crappy install is awful though with loads of defects visible from inside and out.
Costs vary depending on area, but I normally pay around $350 all inclusive here in the Kansas City area.

I’ve heard of people having ‘regular’ PPF placed on the windshield. I had half of a windshield covered in Xpel Ultimate as a trial but it was highly distorting so I had it removed immediately. Never even drove with it on there.
Clearplex is very optically clear; it’s just very ‘rigid’ versus normal PPF and can be a real ***** to install. Great care and expertise is needed. I regard it as a 1-2 year lifetime product and then it’s time for replacement.
There was a new company called ‘Windshield Armor’ that used to advertise in Panorama that I was really excited about trying, but I think they went out of business quickly as I can’t find them anymore on-line.
I seem to remember reading about temporary windshield protection films just for ‘track days’, etc. Let me do some research and get back to you.

I had mine fully wrapped with Modesta Ark Barrier. Depends upon how long you plan on owning the car. Cost was much higher than just doing the front and mirror but I hate swirls on black anyhow so this helps.

We’re talking windshield wraps. Both of us already have our cars wrapped.
Thanks anyway.

If I were you I’d find out who is the best lock installer of your favourite PPF and ask them if they install ‘Clearplex’. Local members of the PCA and BMW CCA May be able to give testimonials re: the quality of the install.
Just remembered: I purchased a 2010 R8 V10 and had Premier in CA cover the whole car in their ‘Satin Guard’ film as well as install their windshield protection film at the same time, prior to shipment. I’m not sure who made the windshield film or even if they still offer it, but it was simply the best install of a windshield film I’ve ever seen.
