RADIO IN A 2016 GTS

I am looking at a 2016 GTS but noticed it did not have a Burmester Stereo. Is there a big difference in sound quality between the Burmester and the standard sound system. Obviously I am not buying a car like this for the sound of the audio, but I would like to know if I'm really missing out. Thanks!

All GTS had Burmester standard. Your probably referring to a GT. Either way I’ve never seen or heard base stereo.

my understanding is as stated above the 2016 GTS has Burmeister standard with an option for an upgraded version

Dear wings02,

With either option, you probably won't hear the stock units if you're thinking audiophile levels. the car is justifiably loud and has its own soundtrack that will overpower whatever music you're going to listen to unless its modified aftermarket. there are some really good discussions where folks have explained and praised the various systems.

The $4,500 upgrade option is a TON better sounding than the "stock" Burmester. If you are into music and playing it loud, the Premium upgrade Burmester is the only way to go, some it may not matter if they listen top the sound of the engine instead and are not crankin' the tunes.

Now that I have, would never get an AMG without it.

My music room is where I listen to music. Although the GT's engine creates music of its own that I enjoy as well. (Especially when I rapidly decelerate in Sport+.) Because the environment of an automobile is not generally the best place to listen to music (except in a Roller or a Maybach) I don't waste money on an upgraded sound system. But that's just me I suppose.

+1. Best OEM high end car audio I've owned.

With you for most of your response as far as the music my M178 masterpiece makes....but it’s not a “track rat” or dedicated track car for me, so still want some good tunes when I want.

I have a base GT with stock stereo

While the treble and highs aren't that bad, it's a joke compared to the Burmester I had in my last car (Panamera)

I am in the process of retrofitting the 640 watt Burmester option, as the high end one would cost me in excess of $13,000 (which is a joke)

I'll let you know the results after I'm done....but as some said, I often find myself muting the speakers at a traffic light with no cars around and I'm about the floor it with the S+ on. Engine sound is just too good and will come through regardless of what audio setup you have.

Good luck.
