GTC cooler screens
#26
I’m going to run this by my SA whom I’ve known for years but bet I get the same negative response.
So, I’m going to purchase the screens and have my local, high-line body shop remove the bumper cover and install them for me. It will be worth 4(?) hours of labour as getting a cooler punctured by a stone on road or track is an expensive repair not covered under warranty.
SDSalon: how long does it take labour wise to do the install?

Okay, just ordered the screens and my SA is checking into this as well. As a side note, if you remember my gravel problem when I had the front and rear pans dropped. Shop foreman said to get it all that the front bumper cover needs to come off. As there is a lot back there and around the coolers he couldn't get to. So it will be a good time to have that done when these get installed. I'll keep everyone posted on this with pics.

There was some suggestion months ago, and I can’t remember from whom, that MB would retrofit these on the ‘18 GT Rs gratis. But Jerry has been trying to get his dealer to do this/look into doing this, and has received nothing positive from them.

Update as promised. These are my screens that came in today at the dealer - yes there are two. Car goes in next Wednesday. Spoke to the shop foreman and he will be doing a full battery of pics I will post. I tip him well. Also of note, he told me a GTR was in last week and he dropped the pans and it was full of gravel as well. You guys might want to check that for sure this spring. We are betting/joking how much will come out with the front bumper off. Told him I need enough to repave my driveway - lol

Looking forward to your pix, especially of the bumper removal and how the screens mount, etc.

Only one part number. There is no right and left. So ordered two. From what I understand they are separate and don't come as a pair. Don't quote me on that - lol.

Cancelled my appointment for the screens which only cost $54 for the pair. With an estimated R&R time of 4-6 hours. I decided, I'm not into paying almost a thousand dollars for this right now. I'll take my chances. Perhaps shortly, MB may step up and cover it for 2018's. We'll see I guess. I could do this myself. Admittedly, I'm too busy and lazy - lol. The last big job I did below has me done for a while.
Here's a huge job the dealer didn't want to tackle. This was extremely difficult and took months of research - but I got it done for my daughter and did it all myself. Something different: a post I made for this on the CLA forum.
"I'm going to let the pics do the talking on this one. Long story short, is my daughter got a loaded CLA - albeit LED headlights. She and I hate the plain lights. Suffice to say, no dealer wanted to tackle the retrofit. Their words were, they service MB's and that's it. I researched this for months. I believe this is pretty much the only guy that does this and he is very reasonable. Here goes a plug for him. His name is Shuliang Tang out of Guangzhou, China. You can easily search (CLA 250 LED Conversion) and find him on youtube. In his videos, you can see he has one heck of an operation and knows what he is doing. There is no remote programming anymore, as you get an OBD connector you plugin that configures it for you - very nice. I paid Western Union and he shipped the same day and took pics and gave me the tracking number. I had the lights delivered to my door in 8 days. I had a few questions and jumped on to Wechat and he answered them and took care of me. This is an app and it also translates for you and works pretty good. His Wechat ID is 13829750307. Any questions on the process let me know. I'm more than glad to help anyone out."
