GTR Owners Need to Check For This Problem...

For those of you who may or may not remember. I had an issue where pea gravel got slung up and caught in a spline in the crankshaft pulley. Thus shredding the PS and A/C belt. Here is a link to that thread with pics.

Pea Gravel Belt Shred Thread...

I had my car go in yesterday for 4 tires and an alignment. I had them remove the front and rear belly/under pans and this pic is what came out of the rear. That's a lot. I don't live on a country road either. Normal street driving. The test for this is to get on the ground and lightly pound your fist at the bottom corners - front and rear. You will hear it bouncing around and some will dislodge and come out right there. These sticky tires catch it and sling it up there is how this happens. This pic is what came out on to the floor (rear only) at the dealership. I didn't want to try this at home because it looks like a real PITA without a lift. He did it right after or before the alignment. Good news is, I'll get better gas mileage with less weight but also less traction - lol.

Im sure the active airpanel has something to do with it. The carbon fiber pan drops and air ( and I assume , debris) is sucked in to give the car downforce.

Thanks for the heads up. Next Spring when I have a few things done prior to track season I’ll have the underbody shields removed and take a look at everything.

BTW: were you just checking your factory alignment, or adjusting it?

I collect debris on my CLS rear (aftermarket) diffuser. It's astounding how much , mainly gravel, that collects in the fins of the diffuser.

I had four new tires (factory) put on and they recommended an alignment. So I said yes. Here are the results Bish, since I know you are really into this. I certainly don't know what any of it means.

They didn't really fix your rear camber. From left to right its off by 1/2 a degree. The rear right camber is not in its target window even though the numbers show green.

Almost 4k miles since they fixed the shredded belt and cleaned them out first time. Since then, the pea gravel has mostly abated in the areas that it was done. It's normal stuff and driving that could happen to anyone in any city.

I see what you're saying. I asked the shop foreman and am waiting for him to get back and will post the reply - thanks.

You know what? That's my bad. Brain fart on my end. It's within spec because 60' is 1 degree. The rear right is out by 0.9'.

So a couple of things: one: please drop your tyre pressures to something reasonable. They had them set at 40F and 42R!

two: I agree with Ronan about the rear camber discrepancy. The toe and caster if I’m reading correctly are set within the factory limits on the rear, but the R rear is far outside of the allowable variation. You want the camber to be close to the specifications on both sides, otherwise you’ll notice uneven tyre wear and perhaps imperfect handling.

btw can you tell me how long they took for the alignment and how much they charged you? Reason: the alignment is adjusted by using shims on our cars; once set it shouldn’t vary. Further it takes much longer to set an alignment with the shims; hence costs more.

I see what you're saying about the right rear camber. I wonder why it's green instead of red? I'm going to go down there tomorrow with the paper and ask and report back. I don't know how long specifically the alignment took, because they had the car for two days. They dropped both pans, tires/alignment and hard wired my Valentine One. If I remember correctly, you had asked a question about that a while ago. Here is a pic. I believe he said there was no extra terminal/slots in there like some/most MB's. So he tapped off the main wire for key on ignition. You might be able to see it in this pic. I think this was taken before he did the tap. If not - let me know and I'll pull it back and find it and take a pic for you. I only have the shop foreman work on my car. My town has a new MB dealer and it is relatively small compared to others. So he was highly recruited because of his skills and experience with MB. He takes good care of me and I can text him anytime. I also usually tip him as well. That's why they love me in Vegas - because I tip everyone and am pretty generous - lol. I've always been that way I guess. Last but not least the alignment cost was $199.

-157' minus the tolerance of 010' is -207'

His car is set to 206' which is within range.

So it is good? I'm assuming so since it's green. But I don't understand the math or the concept.

Yup it's good. It works like how 60 minutes is one hour.

Thanks for response and Im sorry for being incorrect re: the alignment.
