I think that those techniques help. I also use very warm water to release the dirt and oils. I honestly think there is a point of no return on this material...

I use mechanix gloves whenever I drive the car. I know, the haters will say, “what’s the point of owning a car you can’t touch?” My response, “It’s my car so go get your own!”
The reason I do that is because my palms sweat and I’ve ruined previous alcantara wheels quickly even with my best efforts to maintain it. These cars are so exhilarating to drive every time that my adrenaline gets my palm sweat glands going. So, my wheel is brand new.

My wife's hands are always covered with lotion. Accordingly the wheel in her E63S is all matted up. I'm going to get her a set of mechanix gloves for the GTS. Great idea.

Just water with a cotton rag or Microfiber. Have Alcantara night package wheels on both AMG's and still looks great on the E63s after 18 months or so. Still a PITA; fingerprints on the black metal/paint and wet Alcantara wipe down every 2 weeks. Feels like more work than it should.

I’ve always hoped the all leather( luxury pack?) option was available. My 19 GTR is only available in Alcantara and It is least favorite material for me.

The Dinamica or whatever it is Mercedes uses is garbage compared to the Alcantara Porsche uses.
I have no idea if the companies own the right to their respective products or what.

I can't stand this stuff on steering wheels, but love it on headliners. Thankful that mine has the all leather wheel, though I know that's not an option on the Rs.

It made into sports cars decades ago. I think it’s good as an available option but not the only option...

On the MY20 I would take the CF/Dynamica steering wheel hands-down. Coolest looking wheel.

If I could have gotten a GTR with tan interior, and CF on Aluminum trim, id have gone GTR in a heartbeat. Really wish it had actual interior options, and left the all black only for the pro or black series.

I hate mine and am about to take off the wheel and have it completely redone in leather and make it thicker while I am at it.

Interesting conversation here re: Alcantara steering wheel.
I am at 4500 miles, many of them track miles in warm weather and mine is in excellent shape. Never had to clean it even once, and I don’t drive with gloves on.
I guess many of you are far too sweaty palmed!! lol

It's impossible to not have any signs of wear. Friction alone will cause wear. You will have bald spots as a result of just pressure and friction. Look closely and It may not be obvious until you look at in the light. True some people sweat more than others and their skin oils affect it differently.

Right. And it can be brought back to the way it looked before.
People hate greasy Alcantara but don't mind the same on leather which can't easily be restored. They just call it patina and call it a day
Alcantara/Dinamica wears much better than any leather or fabric and is much more cleanable.
Too bad MB simply didn't offer more steering wheel choices.

I like it. It’s just takes a little work to keep it clean. But , so does the entire car. I wipe the car down with detail spray and microfiber cloths. I clean the wheels of brake dust.
I dust the interior and once once a month I clean the steering wheel.

We will have to agree to disagree. When I was looking through the used market, the leather wheels always looked FAR better than the alcantara optioned wheels. It was night and day between them.
