Face Lift Tails Lights - Advice
The face lift version tails give the rear of the vehicle a ‘cleaner’ appearance in my opinion and I have been toying with this update for ages, but have some reservations.
I’ve been reading heaps about this. Some members (on the US site) say it can be done while others say it can’t be done. Others say that it’s possible, but only on ‘08 and ‘09 models and not ’10, and only if the SAM has been reprogrammed.
Still, others say it’s only possible on vehicles without the LED rears. (i.e. the LED blinkers). I realise that vehicles have different specifications for different markets – AUS vehicles are different to US specs. To say the least - I’m confused !!!!!
At the end of the day, I’m just wondering if anyone in the Sydney area has gone ahead and done this, replaced the tail lights with the OEM face lift versions without getting the dreaded error message being displayed on the vehicle's instrument cluster.
Any advice would be appreciated

After procrastinating over this for quite some time, I bit the bullet and sourced a pair of OEM face lift LED’s and the rear SAM from a wrecked 2012.
Had an independent Merc specialist in Sydney, fit and attempt to reprogram the SAM – my vehicle being a 2010 – but to no avail. Fitted the SAM from the 2012 and reprogrammed the SAM to incorporate VIN data for my 2010.
Everything working and has been for several weeks with no dreaded error messages being displayed on the vehicle’s instrument cluster.
Tails are operating just as if the vehicle was a face lift 2012+ version.
Extremely satisfied with the outcome.
