S500 stuck in Drive.
Stuck in parkI had the same problem as countless on my 2000 S 500 and after reading this forum, decided to tackle the job myself.
Once everything was removed from the car, I found the dreaded plastic lever had broken. I replaced it with a new lever from my MB dealer, $141-60 NZ dollars and put everything back where it came from.
Now, my car won't start. The dashboard lights up when the key is inserted and turned on but it won't fire up. Also, the gear lever can be moved through the gears regardless of whether the brake is on or off.
I am at a loss to figure this out. I even took it all apart again just in case I missed something but everything was in the right place. Everything worked perfectly before this plastic lever broke.
I recharged the battery just in case but it's a new battery reading 13.4 amps so plenty of charge.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
