Easy, inexpensive solution for the black Sirius antenna

I received and installed a color matched antenna from http://colormatchantenna.netfirms.c...talog/index.php to replace the ugly black wart. They send out a painted replacement so you're not without an antenna. Here are some before and after shots. At $40 it is a bargain for the quick service, quality and, exact color match. As you can see it is quite an improvement for such a small investment.

How has your reception been? Is it just a repainted antenna?

Did you purposely reverse the mounting direction?

Yes I did. To me it looks like the angle should face the wind. I can change it back at any time. How is it mounted on other MB models? Does anyone have some pictures?

FWIW, the installation instructions indicate that the flat side goes forward (like your "pre" pictures). Don't know if it really matters, though.

Please post a link to what instructions you are you referring to and who published them? Here is a copy of THE installation instructions supplied by the company (WISI) that OEM manufactures the antenna for MB and while it is hard to read it says nothing about direction. Also below is a link to a MB training PDF file and on pages 21 and 35 it seems to show the antenna angle facing forward. Also I did not change the antenna only the cover.

You should put a little spoiler on the back of that antenna. That would really jazz it up. :p

It sure is. I just ordered one. At least, I think I did -- I couldn't find the paint code on the car. Their web site says that it's supposed to be on the center radiator support, but I couldn't find it. I just told them it was pewter, and we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the tip.

If you're in the US, the newer cars have the paint code listed in the corner of a sticker in the driver's door jamb. Your post-2003 W211 will definitely have the code listed starting with the letter "C".

I can find a sticker there with vehicle weight, tire pressures, passenger capacity in each of three rows, but no code that starts with a "c". Hopefully, "pewter" will be enough for them. It seems to be a pretty common color.

Thanks,

Jim
