Radar detector or jammer or both?

I will be driving my car primarily in Southern Cal (I-5, 405, 101, 10 Freeways), and am looking into getting a radar detector. after doing a search of the threads on recommendations, it looks like some are recommending a jammer as well (pardon my ignorance, but is that for LASER that the cops use?). Anyway, it looks like Passport has a combination of the 8500 model with the ZR3 Jammer, and wanted to know if people thought i should get both or is one or the other sufficient in SoCal. As it stands, i already know, it is hard to speed down here with the traffic and all, but every now and then, i like to open up the throttle when the opportunity presents itself. Thanks....

The Passport 8500 is a fine tool for tooling around. The laser jammers can't hurt. Radar jammers are illegal and will get you in much more trouble than the speeding ticket.

It has been my experience that once painted with laser, that is it. The jammer would have to work pretty fast.

Remember that these are just tools and tickets are issued to oblivious drivers without any indication on the detector. Cops will track from behind, from in front, park on entrance ramps and zap from behind, after passing the trap. In short, they are bad, bad, bad.

I never travel high speed alone. I always with the pack of faster cars or trucks. I use a updated V1 with a POP feature. I have no idea what it would do. But it's has updated software so I guess it should be better than before. It saved me many times on I-65 from IN to IL. If you are a daytime speeder, your eyes would be your best defense. It isn't hard to spot a black and white with many antennas or a plain white one. Just get either a V1 or Passport 50, you'd be fine if you pay attention on the roads.

I use a built-in Passport SRX which has a laser shift feature. Its alarmed a couple of times showing laser shift and I escaped "harm". You might also consider a license plate cover that deflects laser -- front and rear. The Passport is not quite as good as a V1 (have that on another car) for detecting radar in terms of the length of warning you'll get, but IMHO, the Passport is a better choice if they user laser in your area. The V1 will detect laser, but 9 times out of ten, its too late.

The Passport SRX is a terrific system. They would have sold several of these to me by now, but they refuse to offer this as a direct sale. Instead they include professional installation in the price and sell it through authorized installers.

I bought mine on e-Bay and had it installed. The unit was about $700- 750 and install was $250. I saved $500. Its not all that complicated for an experienced audio shop.

check http://www.speedzones.com.

My current setup is a Valentine1 v 1.9 with the blinder laser jammer. I did much research for laser jammers and it came down between the Escort ZR3 and the Blinder. I chose the blinder because of all the reviews said that they successfully jammed all 5 laser guns whereas the ZR3 only jammed 3 or 5 in an independent test. The current best radar detector available at the time is the Escort Passport 8500 x50. This is hands down the best on the market right now, the V1 now offers pop support to new models, which also is very good, i'm using it. Speedzones tests the latest radar detectors and laser jammers every summer, I'm going to hold out and find out what is the best these year, they usually do it in june . . . goodluck

Blinder has definately worked. Tested it with a state trooper friend of mine, couldn't get a reading going fast and slow

looks like the blinder only covers the front of the car. the laser shifter has rear coverage also.

With the current weather, I have changed my stance and I am now a proponent of global warming. To that end I have de-tuned my vehicles and am now using hairspray on my folliclely-challenged cranium.
