Speaker Install Question

Has anyone managed to put in speakers in the front footwells on a Mercedes sedan?

I want to install some speakers (prolly 6") in this location for my W124 E280 sedan. I think I've seen one before somewhere in cyberspace, but not sure if the accelerator pedal will be in the way?? (Got a RHD vehicle)

Pictures of these installs will be great? Any one know where I can buy modified kick panels for these?

Cheers

Jon

Yup

Hi Mate,

Not footwells, but did door pods many years ago in my old 124 230E

I had to get modified kick panels made up in my colour. They do stick out a little, however they do not interfere with the gas pedal at all. usually the tweeters go pretty well on top of the standard speaker grilles on the dash. I mounted the amps in the boot, over the voids on the left and right side (directly behind the tyres). Use a good glue or even really good double sided tape for the tweeters to ensure that you don't drill into your speaker grilles, because they can be difficult to get your hands on from MB (the car is 17yrs old)

Sorry it was several years ago, so don't have any photos. Go for vynil or carpet for trim, usually the panels can be made out of wood, with perhaps a little fibreglass, wood does sound better.

Be aware that you will still need to drill into your door skin to fit the magnets (otherwise you'll have a: really thin speakers, or b: really big door pods!), so just be prepared to replace your good 6" with some crappy ones if you ever plan to sell the car.

Wiring is relatively straightforward, just be careful not to snap any of the plastic rivets that hold the door sills if you plan to run cables through).

I've ran 3 amps without a capacitor and had no problems, even powered subs and seperate rear speakers, the standard battery is pretty strong.

Hope this helps,
