CD-RW's DO NOT work on my 2001 model year. CDR's work fine however.

This is Dealer Technical Bulletin 32/01

Programmable Compact Discs such as CD-R and CD-RW may not play back correctly in MBUSA CD Players. For complaints related to playback of CD-R and CD-RW audio CDs in MBUSA CD Players, verify correct operation of CD Player with a Commercial Compact Disc. Due to variations in CD-R and CD-RW media and technical inconsistencies in programming a CD-R or CD-RW Compact Disc, MBUSA does not support their use in MBUSA CD Players. Do not replace any parts for this issue.

I've tried serveal different brands of CD-R's and have not had a single problem wit the playback in the MBUSA cd player/changer. However CDR-W's are not welcome in the MBUSA changer. Just cannot seem to read it well.

i, too, have used a lot of cd-r's and it works great. i think the mbusa's position is more of a liability position - they don't guarantee that it'll work.

mp3s do not work.

CD-RW discs are less reflective than CD-R ones due to the presence of 2 extra layers of dielectric material (their reflectivity is about 1/3 of that of a regular [pressed] CD).

So, a more powerful laser is required to read them. Newer MultiRead CD players are capable of that, however MB CD changer's design seems to be at least 3-4 years old, so no luck with CD-RW

90% of all the cheap CDR's sold are blue/green based, which do not read well in many CD players (for audio). If you buy Silver or ideally Gold based CDR's, they read fine almost anywhere, even on CD Players that claim not to support CDR's.
