Radio volume lowers when I slow down?

I just noticed this, but the volume on my radio/CD will lower when I slow the car down. I was driving down the road at 45 mph last night when I came to an intersection. The music was pretty loud, but by the time I came to the red light and stopped the car, the volume had decreased significantly.

Anyone else having this problem? Is this normal? I drive an '03 C32.

Normal on an E 500 HK. The volume compensates if you open or close a window or sunroof or go over noisy (grooved) pavement.

The volume probably increases as you speed up too, but the change is much more noticeable as you slow down quick. I think this is called "speed sensitive volume", which as Barry already mentioned, is activated by other cabin noise.

It sounds like this is standard on all MB's? Is there a way to disable it?

Yes through the dealer. There have been posts about it on the regular W203 forum. Please search.

Yes, the dealer can deactivate the speed sensitivity. If you have BOSE, you also must unplug the "audiopilot mic" which I have written a thorough DIY with pictures on once upon a time. If you need it, please let me know and I'll try to dig it up.

Cool, thanks everyone. I'll have the dealer disable it the next time I bring it in.
