Aftermarket HID Install Help

Hey guys I just got an e350 and have a few questions as far as it goes to upgrading to an aftermarket HID KIT. The Installation is pretty straightforward. However, I have heard things about errors messages and also that the computer needs to recognize that xenon lights are installed. Now first off, how do you get rid of the error messages? Is there a special way or just head out to the dealer. Also, how do you make the computer reocgnize that you are running HIDS? Does the dealer have to help you out with that as well? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Michael

I'm no expert on the HID or Bi-Xenon kits - but I have read in the forums that the car must be set to recognize Bi-Xenons using a Star Diagnostics computer, which only dealers or Mercedes techs who have bought it will have.

I got an HID kit that didn't need any sort of programming. It was just plug and play. From what I've heard, it's kind of the luck of the draw whether or not your kit works out of the box, or if you have to go to a dealer to program your car's computer. I got my kit from Umnitza for both my headlights and foglights.

damn, that setup sounds nice, would it be a hassle to show us pics of your light output? fogs on of course, only if you can.

Pics!

Here's a few pics. I'll explain what they are. The first one is my headlights and foglights on - both HID. The second pic is my headlights on, with my high-beams, to show the difference in color temp. The high-beams are regular halogen lights. The third pic is the light output against my wall of my headlights and high-beams. The fouth pic is my new cellphone handsfree mount. The fifth is the junk thats now above my passenger's footwell. It's got the cellphone brain, the speaker (soon to be replaced by a module that pipes the caller's voice through my stereo speakers), Sirius radio brain, and triple-cigarette lighter thingy.

I'll clean up those wires one day, but all of this is totally invisible to anyone who isn't Vern Troyer.

Nice, however, does your girlfriend or wife complain about the phone get in her way?

installing the cellphone handsfree

Thanks... the girlfriend never notices the phone speaker - it's pretty high up, you'd have to kick up to feel it.. the phone itself doesnt seem to get in the way either. It's mounted on that Kuda mount you see on eBay, from the seller Unlimited Cellular. The handsfree kit of the Sony Ericsson P910i is actually 3 parts you have to get.. I got them all from eBay. The first item is the actual phone holder, the HCH-37. You'll need the HCA-20 (or 200) for the handsfree brain, microphone, antenna cable, and speaker. The cable to connect the two pieces is yet another item, the HCC-20. It works amazing in my car. You need to run one little jumper wire from the brain to the back of the radio, and it will mute the radio or pause the CD when you get or make a phone call. Oh, and I got the cell antenna from Hirschmann directly - it was like, 7 bucks, and works amazingly... it's really small, and sticks inside the windshield, no exterior parts.. I got the slim one and it connects directly to the antenna cable that comes with the HCA-20 kit.

However, now that you mention it, I think I'll move that brain, and the Sirius brain to the trunk - even though you can't see any of it unless you kneel down by the car...
