COMAND nav system

So I have little to no info on the navigation system (Comand) that mercedes uses. I currently have a navigation system in my current car and I would like to get rid of it and have a built in one in my new c230k but I want to make sure that its a decent system etc...Anyone have any info on it, and/or reviews.

Thanks for any help!

I am confused, do you have two cars one with nav
and a new mb without a nav ?

If you do not have command in your new C
class, I wouldn't think about putting anything
but the MB command. The main reason
being aftermarket stuff does not integrate
with the car well. It's a hard choice especially
with the price of the MB command.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I currently have a non-mb with a nav system. I am looking to trade in this (my current) car for a new mb with the comand system. So I would not do aftermarket stuff. Thanks for letting me know!

................simply put. DO NOT BUY A MERCEDES WITHOUT COMMAND. You may life with decision but deep down you will wish you got the command. Having said that, the MB command is a not perfect. It uses 9 maps to cover the US........so if you are driving from one region to the other, you cannot plug in your final destination and get route guidance, you have to change maps from region to region. Really gets on my nerves. But the command will integrated with your phone, your CD player, etc. On reviews, the main comments MB command are negative............but incorrect. The constantly state that it is so hard to operate...........hard? you have to be retarded to not be able to operate the unit.

Yes I would not buy an MB without the comand, it would seem worthless .

I was saying I would not wait and get an aftermarket system.

Thanks for the input, I dont' care about the difficulty I am a geek and do well with complicated electronics.

Having purchased a car without Comand (even when available) (ML320 - actually it is MCS) and then a car with it (C32) I would have to agree with Ted Baldwin

Buy it! You don't need it, but, hey, you don't NEED a Mercedes!

I wish our ML had it - I've thought about getting the retrofit kit, but now they're talking about coming out with a DVD-based MCS kit near the end of the year ...

Reviews on MB Command are always shaky, but I have to agree with Ted also -- don't buy a Mercedes without it. All cars in this price point 3-4 yrs from now will have one std -- and your car without one would be discounted on trade-in.

Also -- what car are you buying? The new E and S class are getting the NEW COMMAND II system which is DVD based (solving the 6 maps problem) and much easier to use. It is getting good reviews -- but not available until Nov.....all other MBs will get new COMMAND II over the next 12-18 months.

Check out the New-E class forum and you should be able to find PICs of new COMMAND II.
