I'm so frustrated in finding a mp3 solution that does NOT involve a portable player on a cord laying around in the car.

Both of my W211's (04 E320 4 matic wagon) and 05 E500 can play DVDs with MP3s burned on to them. I took all the music on my iPod mini (between 2 and 3 GB) copied it on a DVD (burned in Nero as a dta disc). When inserted in the slot in the head unit, I get a menu when pressing "audio" of "Radio", "MP3" and "DVD" as choices. The 04 needed a software update to play MP3s from DVDs but had the native ability to play MP3s from CDs.
