Not sure about the Command unit. In my Alpine system, I have to choose a area on the address or location setup. It is defaulted at CA, but I live in IN. So, when first power up, I have to change it to midwest region before getting correct information. Oh, it's DVD and it covers the whole US but with 2 DVD, one for Eastern and one for Western.
There is indeed 1 dvd for the entire USA and CAnada. Check the version and make sure you have the latest version. THe POI's are not very helpful at times so I would suggest you type in a address instead.

You may have to change the default geographic region of the country for the initial search. I don't recall the exact menu for this - it is availabe through the softkeys on my '05 S500 (I think under "settings"). Your ML has a bit different system than mine - but your operator's manual should tell you how to do it.
You should not have to reset this each time once you have done it.

I understand that my Lincoln Navigator is an entirely different system but, it only requires 1 CD. You need to choose the geographical area that you are searching in first. Each area usually involves maybe 5 to 8 different states. After this is determined and selected, there is an option to search in "5 closest cities". In addition, I can also get icons of the POI's to appear on my map display. This way you can just select it if you are near it on the map!
Don't know if any of this helps?

On my '04 E Class, 1st you press Current location, then POI's, which gives you a list of types of POI's. You select the type of POI, then it gives you a list. You hilite the item on the list then press info.
