Comand problems - will not store english language
My delight with my year 2000 C320 is marred by the inability of the Comand system to store the English language. It keeps defaulting to German after a restart overnight. And today it actually defaulted to German while I was driving.
Has anyone any words of advice or help, please? I'm hoping there may be a master reset or the like. I've ordered the Comand user guide from my dealer since it was not supplied with the car.

If you ender the hidden diagnostic menu, you can do a full reset from there. This is done by selecting AUX input (press SYS, select AUX), then hold down the 3 keys, MUTE, 1 and 3 for 10 seconds. Then there is a load of menus. I think its under the diagnostic menu.
Also, Look at the error code menu, reset them (by holding MUTE and 0 together) wait until next time it changes language, and then compare them with the error code list (which is linked from my COMAND faq, at http://www.mercupgrades.com/comand/faq.htm)
It could possibly be a dirty/bad map disk - the languages are stored on there - but I thought it loaded them from there into memory when you selected a languages.
Hope that helps you get more information as to what is happening. If not, you may have to decide whether to spend a few hundred on a new COMAND unit or on a German course :-(
