Euro Nav system vs. US

I've looked for this throughout all the forums, and finally had to start a new post...

I will be importing my '04 E320CDI into the US when I return from my current overseas (Europe) assignment in 3 months.

The car has the APS50 system, with factory navigation system. The system does not have the nice 4x4 color roadmap screens - only an arrow, plus voice prompts. It does use a single disk for all of Europe (I thought this was a CD, not a DVD, but now I must check)

I want to be able to use this system in the US, and will need a US or North American disk to do this. Does anyone know if this will be a problem? My local US MB dealer has identifed 2 possible disks:

Q6460208, a 7 disk CD set for North America
Q6460209, a single DVD for North America, excluding Mexico

Are either of these going to work in this car?

Thanks for the help.

My E-class UK price list from Oct 2004 has this for the APS50:

525 Mercedes-Benz Audio 50 APS radio/single CD player with CD-ROM navigation
(simultaneous use of navigation and audio CD possible)
£1,160.00 incl. VAT

so it appears that yours is definitely a CD-based system.

If your current CD is a TeleAtlas one, you can check - and buy - at navshop.com. If it's a NavTeq, then those can only be sourced via MB.

I have the CD in front of me - it clearly says its a CD. Also on the label:

Navisys NavTech

CRROM Europa 2002
Audio 50 APS ECE
version 1.21

Harman / Becker Automotive Systems

So now I know the DVD above won't work - but will the CD pack?

Your APS50 is the same headunit as what was used in the US spec 2003 W211s with audio 50s...MB disabled the navigation part in those headunits because there are no discs for that system and they didn't intend to get discs made for it either.
There is no US disc that works with the APS50 nav system (as far as I know).

well, that just about caps it then. I was beginning to come to the same conclusion as I have hit multiple dead ends on the CDs...

I was hoping that some of the other (non-E class) mercedes CDs would work. ANy hope down that path?

I suppose one option to get functioning Navigation in the car for the would be to replace the APS50 then? Any suggestions on it here in Europe or in the US?

Take a look at MBenzNL. He is in the Netherlands. STFF our forums for references if need be.
