No more phone prewiring on US Cars - MY2007
MB is apparently not going to pre-wire phone systems in US cars from MY2007 (except S/Mayback/SLR)
For the CLK/SLK/C you will have to order the pre-wire when you order the car, and have the dealer fit the phone electronics if/when you want them.
For the S/CL/SL/E/CLS/R/G/M you will have to order the factory phone option, where the car is built with the phone electronics at the factory and you then buy the appropriate cradle from your dealer. [unless it was standard, like on the S]
if you dont order one of those, then MB's line is "you can't retrofit the phone". (also know as "its too hard for us dealers to do", "or we will charge you so much that we are embarrased to tell you")
We in Europe have always had to order the phone system (or get nothing, and the dealers can not retrofit it without huge amounts of work) - we also never had the fibre-optic prewiring for the CD changer
