Prewired for Phone?

Prewired for Phone?
I have a 2004 E320 (W211) with a 4/04 build date. I'm trying to understand if it's pre-wired for hands-free phone support and if all I have to do is buy a cradle from Mercedes and a compatible phone.
The car has COMAND because it has the H-K radio but it does not have the Nav system.
I've been confused by the $1,450 phone option for new Mercedes but now I'm beginning to think that's just to add voice control.
Can anyone shed some light on this subject.

Just had installed in our 2006.
Need phone and a bunch of wiring, plus tech "programs" system to reconginze it all. Must use Mercedes phone.
Parts man at dealer can answer your question in a heartbeat over the phone.

W211 220 CDI
I have kind of the same problem, I just bought a W211 220 CDI from Germany, it has radio CD with NAV and 6 CD changer, I have this "tel" button on the dash. Dam user's manual is in german, can't understand a thing.
Do I need a special phone? wireing? does it have Bluetooth? how do I use a phone in it?

BudC - you have a US spec MB, which is pre-wired for phone. But that does NOT mean that you only need to add a cradle! You will also need some additional parts. Like a PSE, for instance (phone controller).
Muhraka - you have a Euro spec MB, and those usually do NOT come pre-wired for phone from factory. Easiest way to find out, is by asking your dealer to run your car's chassis number in their EPC. If it is pre-wired, it would show.
If it is NOT pre-wired, it will be more complicated to add a phone kit. As you will also need an areal, microphone etc. Wires need to be run as well... It's possible, but not as a 'straight forward' install, and not cheap!

Mine is "prewired" but I do need a cradle and my dealer said they needed to "run some wires". So what are we talking about as far as cost for "run some wires"? My objective is to have the AWS puck which I understand is placed in the cradle.

Good Lord! Why does it have to be so Crazy Difficult? These poor guys have to me computer engineers. Its only a car, not the Space Shuttle. I've never seen such excessive over-engineering in my life.
