Question about the antenna plug

Hello,

I recently installed the Sirius Starmate Replay in my 2001 CLK55. It is initially setup through the wireless FM transmitter but it has more static than I would like. So I purchased a Sirius wired FM modulator and I attempted to install it last night. Here is the problem. It seems like the antenna plug/adaptor on the Sirius modulator is different than the one in back of the Comand. It just wouldn't fit. Does anyone of you know where can I find the adaptor to fit between the 2 different antenna wire?

John

Try your local car stereo installer. In the Seattle area we have Car Toys. Ask for the antenna adapter for a VW/Audi to regular antenna plug. Most places won't recognize what kind of plug an MB has.

You will need a two cables. One has the MB receptacle to the antenna pin, the other has the antenna pin receptacle to the MB plug.

You need the VW kit at the bottom of this page: http://www.installer.com/antenna/

Well, mission accomplished. With the wired FM modulator there is hardly any static left. Thank you Velvet Frog for your advice. Here is how the setup looks like.

You are welcome, JohnAMG. Here's a pic of the install of my roadyXT. I put the signal modulator and power adapter behind the cubby hole below the radio. Probably wouldn't work for you since you have the Nav. Was able to tap into the cig lighter for the power. I ran all the wiring behind the dash so none of it is visible. The wires emerge from seam between the wood panel and the dash.

I like your installation. It is very clean and neat. I have another question. I want to hardwire the power source to the cigarette lighter. I removed the shift wood console, unscrew 2 screws that hold the ashtray, but I can't get the ashtray/lighter housing to come out. I thought there maybe a latch in the back but I couldn't feel anything with my fingers. Any suggestion on this?

I've been on the road and haven't checked in lately. Do the following to wire into the cig lighter:
Remove ashtray and cigarette lighter
Remove lighter receptacle by pulling up with your finger in the receptacle. You have to pull pretty hard.
The lighter has 3 wires. Use a Multimeter to find the hot and ground wires. I can't remember which is which.
Connect the XM power adapter by using the plastic tap connectors you can buy at an auto parts store, usually in the trailer wiring section. These are the kind that you just snap onto the wires you are connecting and pierce through the wire insulation. I used 12 gage connectors.
Connect the cig lighter power adapter to the XM receptacle and tape them together.
Route the power wire.
Re assemble the lighter receptacle and ashtray.

Thanks again Velvet Frog. I tapped into cigarette lighter wires and now all wires are concealed. It was easier to pull the lighter housing than attempting to removing the whole lower console. Well no more project left for the CLK except to buy the new wheel/tire when spring arrive.
