Mercedes moving to digital on Tele Aid?

My apologies if this has been discussed but didn't see it in the archieves.

Apparently next year (07) will be the last year originally analog TeleAid-equipt cars will be able to access the service (for MY2000 there is no upgrade.......and for 2001-2003 it "depends on the version of equipment").

So what's the determining factor here?..........I have an 01 AMG......long since changed over to verizon CDMA digital phones........but the info on the MB site makes it sound like something more high tech is involved, not simply the phone......anyone know the inside poop?
TIA

I don't see what the phone has to do with it...

b/c i have a 2000 E wagon with the original startac which is a dual mode (digital and analog) phone in one. i'm quite sure the teleaid is analog. so i don't know what relation the phone and teleaid have to one another-they run on totally separate systems, I do believe.

They are clearly separated systems. I believe the compatibility in switching to digital relates mostly to the frequencies compatible with the teleaid antenna systems, which are separate from the phone antennas. For example the early 2000 S-class models have a non-compatible antenna (if memory serves me well, it is built into the rear bumper and cost prohibitive to replace).
