Cell Phone Antenna Amplifier
Does the factory (or dealer) installed phone package on new cars include an amplifier to increase the output of the the phone to 3 watts?
If not, does anyone have experince with adding an antenna amplifier to a stock installation? Does it significantly improve coverage, and under what conditons. What brand of amplifier is recomended. Any issues to be careful about?
Thanks in advance to all

You are right that the compensator is not an amplifier per se, but it clearly does a add signal strength when using the built-in antenna system (depending on where you live that is). The whole purpose for the thing is to offset the signal loss occured by the system/wiring.
The UHI systems in Europe still use a compensator (211 820 08 85 Kompensator) which I opted not to buy. I used the US compensator for my UHI setup in the SL55 (re-wired) and in the suburbs I got 2-3 extra bars (in the city it didn't matter, but that's not where I live).
I tested this repeatedly as I wasn't really interested to install it at first...

Thanks, I think!
According to the instillation isntructions for the MHI cell phone package for the R class there is a linear compensator between the phone and the antenna. Do I put an amplifier between the antenna and the compensator or between the compensator and the phone?
The compensator uses an FAKRA lead. Are there amplifers that use this kind of lead, or do I need a converter?
Thanks Again
Doug
