2001 ML320 radio no sound output

I had a body shop repair my rear bumper and tailgate and when I picked up my vehicle I turned on the radio and no sound came out of the speakers.

I can change all the stations and when I switch to a cd I can see it play and no sound out of any of the speakers. I checked all fuses but all are ok.

Any suggestions, beacause the system worked fine before I brought it in.The shop said they only worked in the rear of the car and said its not their fault.

any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I have similar problems with my radio. After being hit from behind by another vehicle my radio went silent? I´m experiencing the same issues, the radio seems to be able to tune to various stations but there is practically no sound coming out from the speakers? Did you manage to fix your radio?

I also have another issue which is that the CD-changer isis having issues, when switching to CD the display prompts "No CD-changer"

The sound system works fine using the cassette player by the way.
Any comments deeply appreciated.
Regards, Gary

You're hoping for a response from somebody with a single post -- in 2006? In case he's not around, I'll pipe in that it sounds like your D2B or MOST ring has been interrupted. The headunit in the car, amplifier, CD changer, phone and any other audio components are connected by fiber optic "cables" in a ring configuration. Break the ring at any point and all communication between components stops. Since the CD changer is in the trunk (boot), you should look for a disconnected fiber connector there. It's also possible the accident damaged a fiber cable. Here is so more information on the older D2B system that I think your ML uses:

Dear Whoover, thank you wery much for replying to this thread. As you mention in your reply it´s unlikely that I would receive an answer but I was however hoping that someone would react on it which it did in your case. Anyway, I have contacted my MB dealership and asked if the have tested the fiberoptic communications as described in the information you have provided.
Thanks again for your support.
