E-Class Rear Fill Upgrade
I'm in need of some help!
I have a 97 E-class with a non-bose set up, and would like to add some more bass to the setup. Now personally, I am not a big fan of sub boxes, because I like the functionality of the trunk and don't want to loose any of that space.
I've been told in these vehicles that the rear subs are 6.5", and that if I want to basically use the factory locations with little to no modifications, then I would be looking to purchase a "free air" subwoofer.
-Here in lies the problem-
Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make such a thing, and then in this size? If not, what reccomendations can be given that I can put in that location. I'm looking for the clarity and range in tones....NOT something that ratttles trunk and creates a lot of unnecessary attention.

I've the same question too! I don't know any manufacter that makes subwoofer's with such size but I don't know if that space isn't big enought for a 8' subwoofer. When I have time I'll check it because it's easy to buy a 8' sub from any manufacter.

I've heard that it may be possible to fit the subs that are in the older S-class models (w140) that had the bose system. Those models have the same rear set up with 2 sets of dual subs. I have that particular model as well, and let me tell you that the sound in that is a thing of beauty!! If I could interchange those for what's in my E-class, then I GLADLY would!!
In any case, I've been doing some research, and can only find 10" free air subs, and was trying to figure out if at all possible to take out the two subs that are currently there and put in one 10". I know that it's a bit of a strech, but I'm running short of ideas of how to add a little more bump back there...
Any suggestions anyone??

Virtually every MB I've owned has had a BOSE or HK system. My 98 E320 had one so the BOSE system complete with sub-woofer will definitely fit your 97 and I am sure it is available either at MB or aftermarket. It's a decent system but won't knock old ladies off the sidewalk as you cruise by.
