Phone and Voice control installation

OK, I have been looking around the the forum to get a feeling on what is needed and how much work is involved in getting Bluetooth functionality in an '06 E500. The car is supposed to be pre-wired for phone integration but I haven't been able to find any info on the VC stuff.

So my first question is how much is needed to get VC installed and working? Reading the installaing guide from MB (http://www.overgaardweb.com/dl-files...stallation.pdf) it doesn't seem too difficult. I asked my dealer and was told that the wireing is not in the car and the tech needs to pull wires from the trunk to the dash. Does that sound right?

Sencond question, do I need VC to get BT functionality? And what do I gain by adding VC?

Third question, how much work is involved in installing the phone cradle and getting it ready for the BT adaptor?

Finaly, does anyone know the prices for the MB parts needed for BT/phone and VC?

Thanks,
-S

I have a related question

Does handsfree communication imply that the car comes with VC ? My GL450 has two VC buttons on the steering wheel, but they do not seem to work or do anything. Any comments ?

1) If you car is in fact prewired, the long cables and most of the connectors are present. I understand however that MB has been deleting the prewire in newer cars. Judging from the installation guide you cited, and IF your car is in fact prewired, you will need the parts that were shown in the parts list. Prewiring does not include any of those things. You will also need a BT puck.

2. You do not need voice control to get BT functionality. Even the installation guide notes that VC is optional. Voice control lets you control functions of the COMAND (if you have it) - radio, CD changer, phone functions, and nav functions.

3. I can't answer this.

4. Your dealer should be able to tell you the cost of parts and installation.

The thread at https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/154212-what-do-about-hands-free-please-help.html has some more information.
