Ipod hookup with 3rd generation ipod
I just got a 2007 ML63 with the ipod hookup. I have a super old ipod (3rd generation) which works with the system. The book said it would work, and I upgraded the software for the ipod and it does!
heres the thing though, I get crackling and sounds (like a hard drive spinning) that seem like they are coming from my steering column. If I put the volume up high enough then it doesnt bother me, but on low settings you can definetly hear it. Is this the way it is with all ipods, or just my old one? Any advice?

Update:
I went out today and bought a brand new ipod and then loaded it up with my music... well it doesnt sound as bad, but there is still is a "spinning" or "whirring" sound coming from the left tweeter only when the ipod is on. Also it seems that vocals are only coming out of the right side of the car?
whats goin on here guys? please help me out??

I've got a 3G iPod as well and works just fine.
I get a little whine from my iPod but only after I manually change tracks... I guess the whine is from the harddrive seeking. I've got it set to shuffle and if I just let it play, there's no whine.
It sounds like you got a bad install of your integration kit. I'd bring both iPods in and demonstrate your problem to the installer.
