W210 phone install w/D2B

I purchased a PSE/Mikbox/Antenna amp from another MBWorld member to add to my 2001 W210. My car had a CD changer but no phone. I hooked up the phone parts but I was lacking the extra D2B cable to add to the loop so I used the one from my CD changer to test the setup. I have the Audio 30 and I am able to use the phone from the head unit. The up/down button on the steering wheel allow me to scroll through my phone book but the phone connect/disconnect buttons give a message that they are non-functional. I'm guessing they need to be set with the dealers STAR system but thought I would ask here first. Secondly, should the phone numbers which show on the head unit also be on the dash display? Thirdly, when I get the extra D2B cable to add to the loop will the system automatically recognize both the phone and CD player.
I've spent a few hours on the net, and MBWorld, researching the MB phones & D2B with limited success. If anybody has any good links please let me know. Thanks in advance.
2) My dashboard also does not recognize the phone. MB has to program it into the system to make the dash work. Everything else works fine so I never saw the need to have it done. You may be different.
3) You system should recognize both automatically as long as you plug them in correctly. I seem to remember a certain order that the devices need to be in. I'm sure i got the info from this forum so search around for fibre device order and you should see something.
