I have checked bestbuy and circuit .com, they have a function to search/show the unit that is compatiable with my 2002 CLK320, but the result is 0. Do you know why? Is it trouble to replace the original unit? Thanks.

Yes,

Functionality like steering wheel and amp interfaces have all been documented on the forum.

I work at Circuit City and have installed radios into w208's before the key is whether or not you have the fibor optic bose amp. Even if your car has the fibor optic changer that doesn't always meen it feeds the bose amp. Take it by your local CC they should be able to do the job, also it actually uses a VW harness to adapt aftermarket radios to MB plug!

1999 E-320
I've been looking into installing an in-dash receiver with bluetooth and mp3 capabilities into my 1999 E-320 (W210). My car doesn't have the steering wheel controls, but I believe those controls require use of the fiber optics network and so a Mercedes head unit with fiber optics port is required if you want to use your steering wheel controls.

I have a Bose amplifier in my car. I've seen threads in another forum which stated that the Bose amplifier requires differential signal input with max 4V amplitude for best input interfacing to the Bose. There is an adapter device which will convert the ground reference pre-out signals coming out of an aftermarket head unit into differntial signals. This adapter device also has RCA connector jacks for direct connection to the pre-out of aftermarket head units, and wire leads for connecting to a harness.

Apparently, there is a standard volkswagen harness which will allow you to connect the wired harness in the car to the aftermarket head unit.

The main thing to keep in mind is that an aftermarket unit will not support whatever functions you have in your car that make use of the fiber optics network: CD changer, phone, steering wheel controls.

This is what I've learned so far. If any of my info is incorrect, please feel free to correct me. If you would like anymore info, I will be glad to answer what I can.
