Stock fiber optic cd changer problems

Car is a 2000 E430 with the fiber optic wiring.
changer is an mc3198

So my Mc3198 cd changer doesn't want to eject the magazine. The lighted eject button is intermittent when pushed. Sometimes it comes on, other times it stays on, and sometimes it blinks.

The comand unit does not recognize that the cd changer has a magazine in it, but it does recognize that there is a cd changer installed.

Does this sound like a wiring situation (intermittent ground maybe) or does it seem like the cd changer itself is shot?

Can i use either the mc3110 or the mc3198? Which one is better?

Thanks

sometimes the cartridge is a bit 'off' and swapping it out for one which works
solves the problem....but you have to get it out, of course. the cartridge
mechanism is a transport system which isn't the most precise.

have you looked carefully to determine whether one of the trays is still stuck
in the extended position....thus preventing the cartridge and transport from
functioning properly?

if all trays retracted into the magazine, you may want to try nudging the
cartridge a bit in various directions to see if you can unstick it ...while pressing
the eject button. that has worked for me. i then swapped with my brother who
didn't have any problems using it in his changer

MC3010 and MC3198 are interchangable, though 3010 is about .25" shorter
side-to-side and may need to spacers to your existing mount (or just get a
3010 mount).

The comand unit does not recognize that the cd changer has a
magazine in it, but it does recognize that there is a cd changer installed.
if head unit says 'No Magazine' this is a bit more challenging than the other
msg 'No CD changer'. i dont have any tricks for the first one, whereas the
2nd one usually (more than 50%) requires disconnecting power to the head
unit and waiting as long as overnight (reported by other users) and powering
back up later. presumably, this has the effect of resetting the head unit
and resynch-ing to the changer. since yours is MY 2000 i'd pull the fuse
rather than negative battery cable, to minimize resetting and resync of
appliances and memory (seat, roof, mirrors, radio code). oh, be ready to have
your radio security code on hand.
