Upgrading SLK230 Startac phone to bluetooth
Folks....I have been reading the forums and am now hopelessly confused. Can anyone provide a recommendation for updating my '00 SLK230 from the Startac to bluetooth so I can use my PDA as the phone? If this is not feasible, I am open to any suggestions to upgrade this system as Verizon will no longer keep the Startac account active.

The '00 - '02 SLKs are shown as having an autosense PSE (the cell phone Portable Support Electronics module) and either a TimePort or a V60 cradle. The autosense PSE could detect whether it was being used with a TimePort or a V60, and could be used with both. It is very likely the '00 had a TimePort cradle and an autosense PSE. You can check the part number of the PSE against that for the '00 SLK in the phone bulletins on Paul H. Dick's site (http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit...bulletins.htm). See the last pages.
You mentioned a "StarTac" - the TimePort was an advanced version of the StarTac. However, if you in fact had a StarTac installation, it used a different PSE; you'd need to upgrade to the Autosense PSE. To avoid unnecessary expense, take a look at what's actually installed in your car. Paul's phone bulletins tell you in detail where to find it.
If you have the autosense PSE,then what you need to do for Bluetooth is much like what Sarv needs to do in the post at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...bluetooth.html except that you are nearly certain to need the V60 cradle into which you will insert the V60 Bluetooth puck.
The AWS website vehicle compatibility chart verifies this, See http://wireless4mb.com/
However, pay particular attention to compatibility issues; many PDAs are not compatible with MB Bluetooth. AWS tells me they have the most compatibility issues with the Treo (I don't know which models). You might search the forum for mention of your particular PDA - and if in the market for a new one, discuss with AWS.
