Passport 9500i Radar Detector

I just received my 9500i yesterday. It works as advertised. Surprisingly, I can mount it above my rearview mirror and still receive a GPS signal. I was even able to use my “integrated” Valentine 1 power cord with the 9500i. I blocked out all of the usual false alarms on my way to work today and enjoyed a silent, protected, commute home. It’s brilliant!

I'm a die-hard Valentine 1 user (I own three). I already miss my directional arrows, but the 9500i is the new standard. I'm sure Valentine will eventually have the 9500i features too. I will continue to use my V1 on road trips, but for now, I am a V1 defector. The 9500i is the ultimate commuter radar detector.

By the way, I wanted to run both detectors at the same time for 30 days, but the V1 detects the 9500i’s presence. Unfortunate.

Good post, am thinking about getting one myself. Are they out fully in the stores yet?

I suggest you mount the radar/laser detector right above your dash, because the popo doesn't aim for the roof of your car they aim at the left / right headlight & the grille. Don't plop your detector in the middle of your windshield either because that will block your view (very little) but it's a vehicle code violation. Just a tip

I prefer to mount my detector as high as possible. The beam of a laser gun is large enough to set off high mounted detector. Either way, if you are the target, you are tagged by the time the detector goes off. Your best bet is to pick up some of the laser "over-spray" from a targeted car in front of you. In my opinion, the best way to do that is by having the detector as high as possible.

I also like having the detector high enough so it is not as noticeable to other drivers and to people walking around outside the car when it is parked.

I was about to post the same thing about the 9500i and the V1, I currently have the V1 and K40 Excaliber and am thinking about the 9500i.. Is the 9500i that much better than the V1 ? I don't think my K40 is as good as they claim as I am going to swap out for the blinder which is supposed to be the best laser jammer out there.

I wouldn’t say the 9500i is a better performing detector than the V1. (I have not yet seen a head-to-head comparison test.) The main reason I bought it was to eliminate all of the false alarms I encounter on my daily commute.
