Question 6310i or T68i for us 230 coupe??

Looking for some advice. I have been following the thread on the 6310i install...Iam tempted. Initially I thought...I could simply purchase the parts in Europe and install the phone cradle and controller in the central armrest myself. I am a bit intimidated by references to the fibre optic loop..scared of opening up the innards of the dash...is the 230 coupe easier than the ml?

My car is entry level spec in the us..cassette radio..no bose..no teleaid.no nav...
I asked the local dealer in UK ( Iam home visiting) and he was very cooperative...told me to supply the vin number and he could determine the exact wiring of the car and what pieces I would need.
I have a note of the part numbers Richard supplied. If I buy the parts...do I have to open the dash ?

OR

Should I use the t68i with the c230...some have mentioned an advanced hands free kit to mute the radio but the thread ended without resolution.??
Many thanks to anyone that can help.

I can't comprehensively answer your questions, but I can tell you that I am in the process of installing the phone in a C240. I bought the parts from a parts dealer in Berlin who is willing to give buyers of the parts a 5% discount if 4 or 5 people participate. My costs, and I didn't buy the compensator because Richard said I may not need it, were as follows:

1 203 820 25 85 STEUERGERÄT / CONTROL MODULE 213.20
1 203 820 06 51 HALTER / BRACKET 108.60
1 203 820 52 15 KABEL / HARNESS 203 820 55 15 10.50
1 203 823 03 49 KAPPE / COVER 1.00
2 140 990 06 22 SCHRAUBE / SCREW 0.20 0.40

333.70

1 DISC CO BUY DISCOUNT 5% 16.70

317.00
1 INS INSURANCE 2.70
1 DHL AIRFREIGHT 542 2182 404 45.00

US $ 364.70

The dealer gave me the 5% discount to incent me to explore potential purchases with others on this site.

Note, I still need to purchase an antenna switch for about $105.00 to get this to work, and spend approximately $300.00 for the phone. $765 for an integrated phone. Much better than the cost of a Motorola, but I still need to find out if it all works.

By the way, I am going to pay someone to tie the D2B cable for the phone into the loop.

Thanks rgleason for your prompt reply. Would ..I need an antenna switch??...I dont have teleaid or anything.Few more questions.
Are you placing the phone in the centre console/armrest?
Any idea how much the 6310i will cost?
Will the bracket be compatable with future nokia phones ??

All help appreciated..thanks

I guess you won't need the antenna switch if you don't have teleaid 'cause the switch allows teleaid and the phone to work with the same antenna. One this site: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?...SD&usdcrt=true you will find the cheapest prices I could find on the Nokia 6310i phone. Richard, a Super User, provided that info to me. I don't know the answer to your question on whether the bracket will be compatible, nor do I know whether the PSE controller will be compatible. As a matter of fact, I don't know if the 6310i is even going to work in my US C240, but I'm going to find out. Why not ask someone in the Audio forum whether the bracket and controller are likely to be compatible -- actually I guess you just did. Does anyone know?

About that D2b loop. I was doing some other wiring and found unused connectors near bose sub (coupe, trunk area right side) as well as under the rear trunk mat. If you unscrew the tether loops and lift up on the spare tire cover mat. There are a bunch of wires including some unused fiber.

Perhaps these are where your components plug into!
