Question CD Changer issues...

Ok. When I first got my car, it was missing the magazine. I now have a magazine, loaded it with CD's and put it in.

My questions are these:

Where is/ are the fuse(s) for the changer located? I looked in the trunk and under the hood. I only saw stereo, but not CD changer specifically.

I have no other problems with the system at all, but there is no power light, the magazine will not eject, nor will the HU recognize that it is even there?

Does anyone have a similar story that I can learn from?
I did a search, but didn't come up with anything substantial.

Thanks for any help.

-John

Try removing the CD-Changer to make sure the wire connections to the back of the unit are secure. I only have experience with the R129 model, but I think (could be wrong) the CD-Changer gets power from the head unit through the wire harness.

Power supply CD-Changer

MB-Dude, you're right. Power supply for CD-changer comes from connector C1, pin 6, of the comand or connector C, pin 5, of the stock radio.

Oh boy... Good point!

unlukky and Ogpogo - Our assumption here is that you guys are using a stock MB 6-disc changer with a stock MB Head Unit. Aftermarket head units will probably require special wiring. MB units are plug-and-play.

Thumbs down

I have the stock 6 disk and comand head unit. I cannot get the unit to even recognize the changer. I checked the connections and they look good. I'm at a loss. I just listen to the ipod anyway, but it still bothers me...

Well it looks like my Changer in my CL500 has given up the ghost. We pulled it out. Not that hard to do. Got the magazine out of it with a little effort. It has been on the fritz for months off and on. It would miss a CD then say No Magazine. In looking at it its pretty cheaply made. So 8 years is a good life for a "Jap" CD Changer. So anyone know if you can upgrade one of these things ? Suggestions ???

I have the 002 820-7989 MC3198.

I see some "Used" ones on E-bay but that sounds like a poor decision.
Going to guess a new one at the dealer will be more than my Las Vegas Suite
in 2 weeks. $ 500+.

If anyone has one that they pulled for an aftermaket setup let me know.
