Quick bluetooth question...

I am picking up my '07 E550 this week, and I had a question as far as the install of the bluetooth puck. The stealer wanted $995 for it installed (when I mentioned the MB website lists it for $408, he agreed to give it to me for that price). I have seen on Ebay and such for much less (as long as it is the new B6 787 5878 part #). Is there anything else to the install other than plugging it in? Can i buy it, plug it in and start using it, or does the dealer have to activate something?
Thanks
Ed

Bluetooth Puck

Nothing for dealer to activate. It is activated just like any other bluetooth device. Read the instructions and plug and play. It works great you will love it. It sounds as if your Dealer tried to rip you off on the price!!

Good luck.

Did not check mbusa web but could it be that the $995 was for the car kit plus the BT puck?

In Europe, the UHI kit costs over 600 euros.

Fine if you got it all for $400, I hope you did not get the puck without the phone support (MHI/UHI) in the car.

Well, I don't know... In a p2 E550 does it come with the phone support? I know the dash has the phone keypad, but I don't know what else is needed. I asked if the dealer will pair the phone with the car when I pick it up and they said yes, so worst case it does not work and they either fix it or I get back my coin.

Does anyone know if I am going to have a problem?

Thanks
Ed

Your dealer shpould be able to answer the question of whether you have the MHI (hands free) phone option installed. The window spec sheet should also have this.

If you have it (and not just prewiring), all you need is a Bluetooth puck and a compatible phone. If not, and you want it, you'll have to add equipment. See https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=188818 for some background (though not specific to the '07's).

What, you say, is a compatible phone? See http://www.wireless4mb.com/ and also read http://www.benzworld.org/forums/show...26#post2222126. The last link may have more than you ever wanted to know, but it will help to prevent costly mistakes.

In future posts, knowing at least the country you live in (or whether your car is U.S., European, or Asian specification) would be helpful.

I believe you can relax with the phone issue, looks like the phone kit is included in the P1 package (and P1 being part of P2).

Best to check - the web states that the bluetooth puck for my CLK only needs the P1 package but it isn't true: the P1 package only contained the pre-wiring. I'd need $2K worth of additional pieces - not that I'm going to do it obviously. You may have more luck with the E but as Skylaw pointed out, make sure it has the handsfree package and not just the pre-wiring in your P2!

I spoke to the dealer today and he told me it was a plug and play deal. I guess I will find out for sure Friday...

Sounds like the Stealership was just trying to pork you for another ~550 bucks on the 550. According to the MBUSA site, phone pre-equip should be standard on that car. Be sure you get the new version (B6 787 5878) of the BT module. The part number is on the unit; be sure you check it before you leave the dealer's lot. Since they were going to sell you the fleece package, I wouldn't put it past them to try and stick you with one of the old pieces of junk that someone else returned because it didn't work.

I have a Razr. I actually swapped out the puck and put in the cradle that holds the phone and uses the cars antenna and charges the phone. I am going to sell the bluetooth for anyone interested. It is the newest model (model # ends in 5878).
