W209 CLK
Steering wheel controllers

I'm looking into purchasing an aftermarket system probably either a Pioneer or Clarion system. I do not want to lose the steering wheel functions and have discovered the Pioneer Avic discussions on the 203 section.

I have a 209 CLK, and since it shared the same command unit as the earlier 203s, would it be safe to assume the steering control harnesses for the 203s will be the same for the 209s? If the 203s and 209s have share the same Command units, then it should share the same controllers.... shouldn't it?

For example, if I were to purchase the Pioneer AVIC units, the CA-R-PI.131 would be used for an earleir 203 for to maintain steering wheel control. It should be the same for the 209s shouldn't it?

Any insight would be appreciated.

There are two adapters for the W203/W209. CA-R-PI.131 is for cars with ISO connectors. CA-R-PI.133 is for cars with Fakra connectors. For W203, I know 2004.5 and up face lifted models uses CA-R-PI.133, which is what I suspect you would need for a W209.

Why pioneer or clarion (cringe).... Clarion = Toyota.... What do you like about the pioneer or clarion over other manufacturers?

What manufactured date will make it a 2004.5?

I have the same problem; finding out what cable is the right one for my car. I understand the difference in both cables but the only real way to find out is to take out the stock radio and see what connector is right? because I have a 2004 Mercedes Benz C230 Sport Sedan, and it was manufactured on 12/03 so would that make it a 2004.5? or just a 2004.?

I have the old dash layout not the new dash from 2005 and up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have the old dash layout, then you'll need the CA.R.PI.131. 2004.5 would have the new dash layout.
